Hi. I have been using Canon F1 new for about 14 yrs and the battery pack for the motordrive is of no use anymore. The drive is still working though, but the battery pack is hard to find. Can anyone point me to a direction?

Sorry sameet. The EF lenses are made for the newer EOS-camereas. Your F-1N take canon FD-lenses or FL-lenses. These are not made any longer, but there are still a plentiful in the used markets. I'll advice you to try E-bay Jomar H

Help !!!with shutter problem....... I have an F1N inside the body it is marked X 1 so I think it is 1983 (somewhere about there) It has served me well. I have the shutter currently stuck open. This has happened in the past. I think it has to do with changing lenses. Can anyone help with this. I seem to remember there being a trick- or quick fix to get it to snap back. Either that or a repair facility in the NYC area would be appreciated.

Hi Randy! The focusing screens for the F-1N is made for the F-1N only. The A-serie screens fits only the A-1 and the AE-1 Program The old F-1 also has its own specific screens

I have used both the F-1N and the A-1, and personally prefer the F-1N. It is more rugged (I've used mine in quite heavy rain without any problems, dare not with the A-1), more economical on battery power (the A-1 consumes a lot by comparison), and much easier when shooting manually set shutter and aperture (the match-needle metering of the F-1N is ideal for this). I also like the user interchangeable focusing screens of the F-1N (and these are brighter than the A-1's), and if I need waist-level shooting, I simply remove the pentaprism. And, the F-1N can perform quite a bit, from 1/90 sec to 1/2000 sec, and bulb, without batteries (using my old Gossen light meter or sunny f-16); I've had the A-1 battery die on me before :(

The main advantages I find of the A-1 over the F-1N are that all modes (shutter priority, aperture priority, etc) are in one lighter package (the F-1N requires motor-drive or winder for shutter priority, and this weighs quite a bit), the frame counter of the A-1 does not advance with multiple exposures (the F-1N's does which is rather annoying when keeping track of film frames), and its viewfinder display is easy to read at night (the light for the F-1N is only in the camera body, not in the AE finder), with a good flash ready ("F") confirmation signal.

Hope this helps in your choice!
