hi everybody, I am thinking of buying a used F1N body, can anyone tell me if there is a way to tell the camera`s year of manufacture from the serial number ? And does the 300TL flash work on this camera, does it provide automation with the winder attached ? Thanks in advance and thanks to the webmasters for this incredible page

Metz Flashes for Canon F1N: Does anyone have a recommendation on a Metz which works well with this camera? I'm shooting models and portraits right now -- a bit of a jump from landscape photography..need a good reliable Metz system to do field work and am confused over Metz product numbers and vague description in terms of use with a retro-grade camera system..BTW the F1N is certainly one of my favorite cameras of all time .. have a Canon 199A flash, but have never used portable flash; always used a studio flash setup..silly huh? any help is appreciated.

The original batteries for the F1 which are supposed to power the light meter had an output of 1.3 Volts. Many of these 1.3 volt EPX 625 variety are no longer available and the ones on the shelf are the 1.5 Volt variety, plenty of them, also coded as 625, of the same size and will fit the camera. The effect of these new batteries on the light meter is that it makes the reading one to 1.5 times higher than what is normal for the selected area reading. This will in turn produce underexposures for slide film and just a slight darkening on print film. In my experience, after comparative testing with other camera meters and modes, the convenient way to have the F1 meter be accurate again when using the 1.5 Volt new cells is to SET the ASA dial one stop lower than the actual film speed. (The original F1 had no exposure compensation). This means that when I use 400 speed film, I would set the ASA dial to only 200, or if I use 100 speed film, I would set the ASA dial to 50. I have placed a card on the memo holder of the camera back which reads: Set ASA 1 stop lower to remind me or another user how to set the ASA when using different film speeds. A lot of users may think that the F1 inbuilt light meter may be inaccurate or expiring because of it s age when the only problem may be the use of the new batteries coming out from different manufacturers which have higher voltages. The F1 is such a great and legendary camera that it should not be relegated on the storage bin just because the meter seems out of whack.

Hello, I own a New F1 with motordrive and HP NiCad battery pack and Ma/FN charger. I have two questions: 1. How can I check if the connector at the front side of the battery pack provides power (current) to a Battery Cord FN? I tried it with a other HP NiCad battery pack and the camera did not function and I could not measure any voltage between the poles of it. Now I bought another HP NiCad battery pack, charged it and still no voltage at the battery cord connector but it transports films. 2. How long and how do I know when the battery pack is fully loaded? Is it the status of the LED on top of the MA/FN charger maybe? Any chance to get a manual in PDF online for the HP NiCad Pack? Greetings to you all and keep up the beautiful work (I designed some websites for businesses), on this site, Robert Sabelis
