Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. Heard that the F65 with the standard zoom Nikkor 28-80mm lens is a pretty good entry level SLR camera, offering good features for the budget conscious.

Any further compliments or grievances about the F65?
I'm thinking of getting this camera and would appreciate any comments from users or experienced photographers.

I recently purchased an FM, and I have one question. When I release the shutter and quickly advance the film, the shutter fires for a second time as soon as the film advance lever returns to its orginial position. Is this supposed to happen? If I wait a few seconds before advancing the film, the shutter does not fire again, until I press the shutter release button. Thanks.

Brian

I think I have found the brand of the third party power winder, it was a Soligor (?). I thought they only produce some zoom lenses and never relaize they made winder for the Nikon FM bodies (I believe it works well on FE models too). Anyone has experience with this winder ?

Oh, I would like to add a few more lines to my earlier posting: if you are very certain the camera is an older Nikon FM. Please ensure the meter coupling lever is not being lifted to a upward position. See third image in red tint at this page: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfmseries/fm/basic.htm IF you are using a non-AI lens with your Nikon FM, you then have to lift the tab upwards in order to get a proper and correct metering by pressing the Depth of field preview lever while turning your lens to other aperture (meaning the LED may shift in such way as well). Anyway, it can be quite confusing to perform all these tasks, I would suggest you identify what camera model is yours firs or simply use the earlier method to see if it works. Sorry to drag and explained this issue in such a long manner.By the way, I truly admire the kind of dedication put into the development of these Nikon sites and I am equally amazed to find such richness of content found in here, Cheers.

Dear Art Rosch: Instead of concluding the camera is faulty, based on your description, I would rather try 1) Check the ASA/ISO Film speed setting (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfmseries/fm2n/fm2manual/index2.htm#asa) and see if it has been turned to anything lower than ASA 50 or below; if it does, lift while turn the dial and adjust back to ASA 100. NEXT, 2) Set the shutter speed to "125" or "60" and Turn the aperture on your lens to other position like f/2.8, f4.0 or even at f5.6 while you looking through the viewfinder and observe the LED is shifting or lit up to the middle or at the top (a good way is aim and to look for a brighter spot). If you are not sure how to manipulate these steps, ask a friend who is more familiar with older mechanical SLR camera to help you. Lastly, if it still does not work, then only consider sending your camera in to workshop for checking (as most service center will take your camera in first and check later - they may charged you even there is not faulty at all). Cheers.

I bought an FM body yesteray from a man who had two bodies
for sale. The first was in good condition, but I later
discovered the film counter wasn't working. So exchanged it
for the other, more beat-up looking one. Seemed okay at
the time, but now the meter led doesn't work. Lights up
at the bottom but doesn't change with exposure. Is this
going to be an expensive fix? thanks.

regarding the Nikon FM10
My information is that it was withdrawn from sale owing to it giving incorrect readings at certain combinations of aperture and shutter speed. I noticed this when I tried it out myself. But otherwise, it had a noble aim: to make manual cameras more affordable to those with smaller pockets.

Hi,
I'm planning to buy a used FM2 or FM2n. Any hints concerning things I should look for that would disqualify a particular body? And one more question - does the cameraback of any used camera have to move (i.e. be loose), or am I just finding not used but abused cameras?
