Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. I noticed and have been wondering WHY Nikon published varying official MD speed of MD-11/FM, MD-12/FM was a faster 3.5 fps but at a slower pace of 3.2 fps with FM2n and an even slower 2.8 fps with Nikon FA. Has anyone here able to check and verify the actual timing ? I guess not.2. From : Jackson (jackbills97@hotmail.com)

The MD-12 is a perfect match to your Nikon FM. It is reliable and very rugged, provides 3.5 fps in continuous mode. Some would preferred it to work with a MD-11 but I think MD-12 worth the slight extra for your camera. Hello there,
I am seeking detailed information about a Nikon camera which is at least 15 years old. The only writing on its body is FM 2536892 (other than "Nikon" and "Made in Japan"). Its shutter speeds vary from B to 1000 and 125 is red coloured. There are only ASA markings (not ISO). Its lens is 50 mm 1:1.8 Nikkor. Anyone who can help me finding detailed information about the model and technical features about it?
My mail is doganerbahar@superonline.com
Thanks . . .6. From : Chuck Hester (chuckhester2000@yahoo.com)

Here is a URL for the Nikon FM3a for those who would like some information regarding this new release. Just recently I had a chance to play around with one and I must say it seems like an updated FE2 to me. No spot meter darn it anyway. Guess I will just keep using my FE2 and FM2 and hang on to my money.

There was a gentleman by the name "WALT" posted a very informative message at the Nikon F3 Board (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/messageboard/f3message/index.php3); That is in relation to those of you who is still facing any of the older NON-AI compatibility problem with newer Nikon camera(s), the trick is just by doing an AI-MODIFICATION. The Message reads '.... http://www.aiconversions.com The fellow there, John White, will convert your non-AI lens to AI configuration for $25.00. He normally turns them around in 3-4 days. It's well worth the cost if you plan to keep an older lens. Having to use the "stop-down" method of setting exposure can be a pain, and it's slow....". Enjoy.

WK Shwanz: you are very lucky indeed by getting yourself a Databack MF-12. For years I have been looking one unit for my personal collection. The y2k issue is not a problem at all, Nikon's MF-12 is a best value of money accessory for the FM/FE cameras. Considering it was a product introduced during the late seventies, the data imprint can go up to year 2100 (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfeseries/fefmshared/mf12/index.htm)! You must be thinking what a big deal, huh ? You will need some comparison to appreciate what does it matters to users like us. Do you know the Canon Databack MA (similarly using a cord connection to the PC terminal) can only adjust the wheel up to year 1987 ??? Those days, Nikon has always been a more considerate manufacturer in terms of quality and value of money for their photographic products. Well, minus the Nikon under the modern management now.10. I have been using a Nikon FM2 for years. I have adapted a OLD MF-12 Databack to my camera but it was given to me without a connecting cord. I was just trying my luck by calling Nikon, good news is - they are still keeping some of these older accesories and so, my MF-12 is working like a dream now except may be the data encodings/imprints are skipping the y2k.
