Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

tengjoon, you don't have to rush the camera for servicing. You have not told us whether you have tried changing a new battery(ies) for the FM2. I have my F3 the same problem after laid off un attended for a month or so, when installed the cells, it didn't work but after repeatedly "activate" the camera via the mechanical shutter, it comes back alive after a night. It works like a dream now. Oh, may be removed the cover and check if there is any rust or deposits on both the contacts and see if that is one of the cause. Always try something on your own before making an assumption, because very seldom a camera's metering display just died off this way.2. From : tengjoon (tengjoon7@yahoo.com)

Why the SB-15 reads as SB-17 & & SB-16A/B at the instruction manual section - are they the same ? I have seen a SB-17 selling quite cheaply in a pawn shop here in my town, but can it be used with my FM ?4. From : H hartford (genderMIX2@hotmail.com)

Michael: Both Vivitar flash units are fine - as long as the price is favorable. But I think the Nikon SB-15 is a very good alternative for general photography (It is very reliable, and features-riched but the only weakness is its weak guide number for bounce flash - if you want, get a used one from used photo outlets, it is cheaper. For more "heavy duty" flash photography, the SB-16B is very good choice but extremely bulky for a shoe mount flash.6. From : H hartford (genderMIX2@hotmail.com)

Bruce: It is kind of complicated to outlined everything in a messagea board. I can picked up some like: FM10 (no motor, no screens, no databack - applies to FE10); MD-15 cannot be used on others except Nikon FA; prior to FM2n/FE2/FA - all other screens need compensation with group A (K, B & E) and Group B (K2, B2 & E2) and vice versa. The new databack is not usable on FM/FE but MF-12 is for all. What else ???7. From : Michael (zun@direct.ca)

Firstly, Bruce, there is no such a Model named "FM/T" but FM2n/T is available, so I would assume that is FM2n Titan. Yes, most of the accessories you mentioned are compatible with each other. However, I am not so sure in detail when you use them with individual camera model(especially the newer ones), may be someone can help us to explain further.9. From : Bruce H (bluedolp99@excite.com)

Can I assume those items in the "shared resources" of this FM site can be interchanged one another with Nikon FM10, FM, FM/T, FM2, FM2n, FE, FE2 and even FA ? Or am I missing something somewhere ?10. I really enjoyed this site very much.I have been reading all about the FM2(n) and I am amazed by wealth of its content relating to this camera. To tell you the truth, I have just sold my F401x and decided to keep my FM2, just because you have made me realize how nice a camera it is and I can live without AF for a while. Anyway, AF camera changes all the time (Getting better too); this camera stays on for nearly 2 decades - it must be good, right ?
