Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

Hi,
I want to know a few things about Nikon FM3A camera body. Please be kind enough to help me.
1) Is the lens mount made of metal?
2) Does the exposure meter works when the camera is in manual mode?
3) If I you are to choose between FM2N and FM3A, which one will you choose?
4) Has the FM2N been discontinued from production?
5) Is the FM3A being manufactured in Japan only?
Thanking you in anticipation,
Suman2. From : Ron Wills (jackcool2001@yahoo.com)

I like this Site and the BOARD. Question: I have this Nikon FM camera for quite a while and someone has sold me a new zoom lens that I can not adjust anything, how to meter it correctly with my camera then ? The guys swore to me it is a genuine Nion lens. I can only get the center diode lights up when I adjust the shutter speed to extremely slow speeds and when all my processed prints turn out to have too many blurry shots. IS that something wrong with the lens and why two other lenses of mine do have something for me to adjust the 5.6, 8 or 2.8 ? I am travelling right now, please answer via this board. Thanks in advance.3. From : Nelson (nillsilver@hotmail.com)

I am from Metro Manila, Philippines - after all the BIG hu-hah with the Nikon FM3A. What is happening to the new camera now ? I still don't see it on the street over here in my country; is it selling at else where now ? How much does it cost then ? These Japanese certainly know how to make up something from nothing and create a teaser story line.. just like Microsoft on the XP !4. From : Andrew V. Canning (andrew_canning73@yahoo.com)

Diver: This is a Message Board for Nikon FM Cameras and strange to notice such an odd posting on the Board. It is indeed very unfortunate to hear such an episode and I can understand the anger and frustration in you. However, once those AAA guys found out such a posting, they may thought it was posted by B&H, Keh or Wall St Cameras.... and they might ask their grandfathers or grandmothers to tell us their experience with those stores too. Peace.
** By the way, I have done two deals here recently at this Malaysian site: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/ftz/ and fortunately I don't have to mail anyone...5. From : Andrew V. Canning (andrew_canning73@yahoo.com)

satbir: There is NO such rule saying someone wearing glasses cannot use a Nikon FM2n, they are hundreds of thousands or even millions photographers are wearing glasses. Generally, camera designers came out with an idea of making the magnification smaller inside the viewfinder in order to allow viewing to be done at a slight distance away from the eyepiece, they put up a sexy marketing term called it as High-Eyepoint Canon, Pentax, Olympus Minolta do have such feature on all their manual focus SLR bodies and their image magnification inside the e viewfinder has an distinctive hallmark of extremely bright and LARGE - that do not post any problems at all and their camera sells extremely well too. Anyway, the eyecup is always helpful for glass wearer as it stop lights zeeping through the eyepiece and may cause half darkening of the split image focusing.6. From : Andrew V. Elson Tan: The Nikon F-mount stays the same way since 1959 except it has different communication method interact with camera bodies for metering. So, even old Nikon FM (OR any other Nikon SLR started from Nikkormat FT3, EL-2, FE, F2 with DP-11 (F2A) & DP-12 (F2AS) ONWARDS that has AI feature on the camera section) can use modern day AF lenses. TEchnically, all Nikkor lenses can also be mount onto any Nikon SLR and shot pictures with it - EXCEPT some cannot have metering, that is all.7. From : Diver (mzurl@worldnet.att.net)

Do not order any equipment from AAA Camera on 113 West 17 St. NY, NY. My order placed on June 11,01 still has not arrived. It was suppose to take 10 days. I checked on June 26 and they promised I would have it by Aug. 1. Aug 2, I called again and they said the shipment has not arrived yet. They tried to get me to accept a substitute. They couldn't give me the model number of the substituted item. Avoid this unscrupulous business at all cost. You have been warned.8. From : satbir (bing920@yahoo.com)

I wear glasses. I have read many posts stating that seeing the entire viewfinder is tough if you wear glasses. How bad is the FM2N viewfinder for eyeglass wearers? How big is the viewfinder? Is it circular or rectangular? Do you think the rubber eyepiece would help any? Thanks for any and all responses.9. From : Elson Tan (hower@pacific.net.sg)

Hi, Understand that older Nikon Manual Camera is having a bayonet mount, instead of the new F Mount. So, can a old Nikon FM or other manual camera use modern day AF lenses in manual mode? If not, is there a way to modify camera to do so? Rdgs, Elson10. Sorry for being a dunce, but I'm trying to work out how to change the ISO rating on my SB-28DX when I use it with my FM2n. It currently stays at 100ASA and I can't seem to change it at all. Is it possible to? Thanks, Matt
