Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

It is a NEW Message Board ! This board is a much better one as compared with the older one or may be I have gone tired of the older design for about a year or two, right ? The Search function is a bonus - when the messages grow in numbers, that is very difficult to locate specific topic with the earlier version. Overall, a big improvement both graphically and in functionality. Good work ! By the way, we should have a few volunteered maintaniners for this message section (like the Canon T90 board and the Canon A Series here in this Site). - MJr -2. I had three F2 (a F2A and two F2AS) but I only have a FM2. But I tend to use more often with the FM2 now - It is lighter and much easier to setup for macro works. I may upgrade and invest into an electronic F3 or a FM3A in the near future; FM2 is good but my system are built around the F2 which means, that look like I have to start built the system from scratch if I look into the smaller system of FM3A/FM2n (the motor drives, screens etc.). Anyway, just want to share with all of you here that this small body of Nikon is built quite tough and if full system integration is not an essential, this camera is well worth in its value as a practical tool for field work. **Dennis**: This page has some explanation to your question relating to metering range: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfmseries/fm2n/fm2manual/index3.htm The EV1-EV18 was, quite conservative as compared with other brands but as long as you can the metering guide, you should be able to calculate the higher or lower value (EXCEPT the case if exposure reading goes below 1 sec, you would need to compensate for "Reciprocity Failure" which explained where most films are designed to be exposed within a certain range of exposure times-usually between 1/15 second to 1/1000 second. When exposure times fall outside of this range-becoming either significantly longer or shorter-a film's characteristics may change. Loss of effective film speed, contrast changes, and (with color films) color shifts are the three common results. ); The Film Speed range enables the use of high speed or fine grained films ) or even push and pull process (Not applicable to all film types) with the FM2n. Naturally, even if it goes out of the "standard" metering range provides by the camera, it can still be calculated from any of the guide provide by the camera. By the way, this site has a very useful and extensive Glossary Section where I think some of you may make use of it as well: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/glossary/index.htm4. Hey, take a comparison at this page:http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf2/prisms/index9a.htm The Metering Range from a 1977 Nikon FM to 1983's FM2n (and FE2) have not been improved very much which reads from EV1-EV18. But I noticed the ASA/ISO has double from the FM to the FM2n, which reads from ASA 12-3200 to ASA 12-6400 for FM2n and ASA 12-4000 for the FE2, what significant does it matters with the improvement of ASA as relate to the "Nikon standard" EV range of EV1-18 ? I get confused with these figures, can anyone explain more ?5.
