Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

Hi B Best: Just under the rewind knob of your FM2 there is a ring with a tab sticking up from it. This is a lock to keep you from accidentally lifting the knob and opening the back. Push on the tab to turn the ring slightly counterclockwise, and you will be able to lift the knob. Pull up firmly and the back will open.3. From : B Best (azbonnie@yahoo.com)

Hi Steve:
The original FM2 had an extra shutter speed - 200 - for flash synch. On the FM2N, the flash synch went up to 250 and there is no longer an extra, out-of-sequence speed marked on the dial.5. From : steve (topdxer@hotmail.c.uk)

TOM: since FM2(N) doesn't offer TTL - the extra premium paid for the AF SB-20/23/24/25 is it justify ? SB-15 is fine. However, if you intend to upgrade for a AF Nion in the future, that makes perfect sense as it can be used on both.7. From : rick oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Hi Toby: You might try the Metz 36M-1, available from Jessops for about 33 pounds. This looks like it should work fine.8. From : Toby (on@request.com)

Hi Rick, I'd like to buy a flash to slot into the hot shoe of my FM2. I went into a local camera shop and they said look out for one of the following:-
Vivitar 283 / 285
Nikon SB20/22/24/25
I've had a look on eBay but haven't found any of these yet. Can you (or anyone else) suggest an alternative unit for my camera or perhaps a good place to purchase second hand flash units here in the UK. Thanks a lot, Toby9. From : rick oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Hi Luke: DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING APART!!!!!!!
If you're looking at a frosted translucent plastic rectangle, about 1 inch by 1 1/2 inches, it is the focusing screen. Tools are not required to put it back in, but it will be best to let it be done by someone who knows how. The person who you have to turn it in to is probably in that category. In the meantime, keep the screen safe. They are soft and very easily scratched, it has probably already suffered some scratching when it fell on the floor - don't let it get any worse than it is. Wrap the screen in a tissue to protect it and hand it in that way along with the camera when you return it.
If the part that has come loose is not the focusing screen, it is not within your skills and experience it to replace it safely. Any attempt to disassemble the camera is almost guaranteed to leave you responsible for a lost camera, rather than just possibly a scratched focusing screen. Best of luck rick :)=10.
