Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you. If your intention is to dispose your Nikon camera(s) or its accompanying accessories or looking for a used model or any of its system components, please use a separate section with a higher volume of traffic Free Trade Zone site instead. The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

It would be really useful if there were "Previous" and "Next" buttons on the forum. When reading through the pages I forget which number I'm on and get lost.... Webmaster - Make it happen! PS - Fantastic website, very very useful indeed.

The BEST way to identify a feature or function a a camera is often the nomecluture (leo's use the term Main reference map). See:
http://mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfmseries/fm3a/manual/htmls/map.htm
the needle at the shutter speed scale (on the left hand side is the exposure needle). in manual or Automode, it moves up & down to indicate the exposure variation (in Auto mode, it moves in correspond to the aperture on the lens (try turning the lens aperture ring and see..). I show you an examle of the recent Nikon F5's reference map:
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/NikonF5/mapF5.htm
it can be very tedious to even produce this kind of info but looks like very few people make good use of it..the Nikon F5 original nomenclature looks pale in comparison to leo's work !

Dear Courtney:- It is your lucky day.. I think. For attaching the neck straps onto a Nikon SLR camera (the newer AF Nikon SLR types may not works in this manner anymore but applied well on virtually ALL Manual Focus or even be used on some selective AF NIkon SLRs). Download the Nikon FM instruction Manual and refer to the early setup section(s_ of how-to: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/manuals/fmfefa/fm.pdf

I know this is a really dumb question, but I'm having problems attaching the strap for the camera. I put the two metal rings on the sides, but I don't know how to put the strap on. Is there a website or an image at least so I know what it's supposed to look like? Thanks.

Hi Rick, Thanks a lot for your post. I figured it out in the end.... In the FM2 there is a little switch under the film advance lever which, when pulled towards you, allows you to take multiple exposures on a single frame. I realised after lots of swearing that I had inadvertantly pushed it, so all the film advance lever was doing was arming the shutter again. When I pushed the switch back to it's normal position the film began advancing happily!! Anyway, thanks again for your help. Toby.

Hi Sunil: Why is the SB22 not compatible with the FM? You can't use its autofocus and TTL features, of course, but according to the chart on

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf4/flash/SB22/index.htm

it should provide both manual and autoexposure function in normal Auto mode on the FM2... and the only difference between the FM and the FM2 is the flash-ready light in the finder.
