Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

A question about my old trusty Nikon Fm. The specs for flash hot shoe in the manual read: "Flash synchronization: Built-in ISO-type hot-shoe contact with safety switch for synchronization with electronic flash units at speeds up to 1/125 sec.; one threaded sync terminal provided for off-camera or multiple flash operation" Does anybody know what the saftey switch is and where it's located? Thanks, Mike

Hi, after a recently discovering this page, I reckon it must be just about the best, most highly detailed page for real cameras there is. Having said all that, can you put an FM rewind handle on and FM2? I have just bought an FM2 (not sure whether FM2 or FM2n) without one (but hasn't arrived yet). Or would an FE, EM, or FG20 fit? Thanks Harry3. From : KIm Seng (naturally_3001@yahoo.com)

The case for the current Nikon FM2n or FM3A fits for the older Nikon FM. most cases are designed to take a 50mm standard lens. IF you intend to have a zoom or something like that whih is longer, ask Nikon's dealer to find the matching one (only th front portion). "Odd" ones doesn't comes cheap - you can also try ebay for used unit.4. From : Alex Velitskovich (asv71952@aol.com)

If all wiring were to be taken out of the FM, which wire would have to stay in order for the meter and led lights to work? Also, is it possible to take out the mother board and its wires connecting to flash and motor and still function the meter and led light. Do they run straight to the battery, or do they go throught the mother board? Thx. Ben10. YES and a NO. You can mount the lense onto the FM2n and shoot as you wish BUT WITHOUT metering guide.Nikon WARNS the mounting of old NOn-AI lens onto newer series of camera bodies may damage the meter coupling ring but I don't think so. Anyway, check you lense IF it has been AI-modified - if it is, you can use the old Nikkor freely as any other lens (retaining all meter guide function). HOW to verfify if it is or not an AI-spec Nikkor lens? Read some excellent reading references here:

OR even easier by comparing via the visual guide:
