Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. Hello. I would like to update my original FM's to the FM2n but do not know the serial number ranges of the variants. I would like particularly to know the serial number when the aluminum shutter was introduced. I am also looking for a rewind knob axis bearing for one of my original FM's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob

Thanks Hermann Graf.

To:Alec: I am not a seasoned user. I just started myself. When I was doing research on camera, I found the FM3a to be a very nice camera. It has a fast top shutter speed of 1/4000 s. It has an aperture priority mode which lets the camera choose the shutter speed while you choose the aperture. I espcially like the needle style light meter which visually shows you the changing light levels. I might also suggest looking into the FM2 which is fully manual and in my opinion fun to learn on because you have to choose all your settings on your own.

Francis: Nikon FM10 will only workable with MANUAL or AUTO flash. It doesn't provide TTL flash exposure control. Normally, AUTO flash will have a few auto settings (i.e. indicated by colored coded aperture(s) which signifies the proper flash distance in order to achieve optimum exposure). Since you are using Manual control, it is alright but the auto flash may, sometimes provide fash exposure calculation easier for you as well as it preserves power more efficiciently as it does not always has to blast the flash at FULL power.

Hello, I have nikon FM-10 with a Nikon SB-20 flash. Should I use the flash only in manual mode or can I run it TTL or A? So far, I have been using it manually and it looked pretty good. I am just wondering what my other options are!! Thanks,

Hello, I'll be selling my 70's era Nikon FM (with standard 50mm lens and 135 lens, and various close-up lenses and filters) and I have no idea what a good asking price is. It's in excellent shape (very minor cosmetic blemishes) and has always been protected in foam case and bag. Can someone help with what I could reasonably quote the buyer? Thanks, appreciate it! Sheila

To Andrew: With the FM2, you can either select the shutter speed and adjust the aperture or the other way round. When you select aperture and adjust shutter speed, it can be necessary to readjust the aperture in order to obtain "0" in the light meter readout, because shutter speeds are provided in full steps only at the FM2 (consequence of its mechanical design).

Don't feel bad. I am not sure does the FM10 has a ne strap design. but try to download the FM User's Manual and check for yourself if the same principle applies. Anyway, if it doesn't, just use a little imagination and basic physic to make it work. The file size is 636k and you need to download a free PDF reader utility (www.Adobe.com) to view it. http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/manuals/fmfefa/fm.pdf
