Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

Hi, I am looking to get a manual camera, and am deciding between the FE2 and the FM2N. I am new to photography, can someone tell me what the practical differences between these two cameras are? I understand that the FE2 uses an electronic shutter release, is that the only difference? I don't plan on being in extreme weather environments that would debilitate the battery of the FE. Are there other differences? Weight? Size? Recommendations? Durability? Please email me at: kristina@californiahost.com Thanks!3. From : Rick Oleson (rick_oleson@yahoo.com)

Hello Miguel: My name is Rick, I am the Co-maintainer of the Olympus Message Board in MIR (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/messageboard/olympusom1n2/index.php3), Leo Foo has asked me to help answer your questions, as he is out of town. The SB-20 flash should work on the FM2 camera. Set the shutter speed to the X synch speed (either 200 or 250, depending on which model of FM2 you have); Set the flash unit to one of its AUTO settings; set your ISO film speed on the slider on the flash unit, and it will then tell you what lens f/stop to set for the AUTO setting you have chosen. The flash unit will now automatically control itself to give a correct exposure at this f/stop. With ISO 100 film, for example, you have AUTO ranges for f/2.0, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6 and f/8. Different ISO settings will give a different range of f/stops. For batteries, the flash operates on (4) AA size alkaline or rechargeable batteries. In the camera, you can use either (1) 3 volt size "1/3N" Lithium battery, or two 1.5 volt size 44, 76 or 675 silver batteries (these 3 numbers are all the same battery size). You can also use alkaline batteries in the 44/76/675 size, but they will not last as long as silver or lithium batteries. Do not use Zinc/Air batteries in the Nikon, their voltage is too low. I hope this is helpful. Please contact me if you have any other questions. Rick Oleson, Lexington KY USA4. From : Miguel Lagos Bustos (mlagos@camanchaca.cl)

I have an FM, circa 1978, which I have used steadily since I bought it. A few months ago the DoF preview lever broke. The diaphram activator in the body works OK. Nikon factory repair said that they do not have the part in stock (camera too old). Local repair shops (Montreal) also are unable to find the lever. The camera also has a light leak along one of the gaskets, but this is a minor problem.
Does anyone have suggestions about repairing the camera?9. From : AMY (abilbija@mackenziepartners.com)

Wondering what the opinion is out there of buying a FM2 versus the FM2(n). I am looking to get a new manual camera, and not sure which way to go. Also contemplating the FM3A, but obviously there is a substantial price difference. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!10.
