Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. Hi everyone. I'm quite new to photography, a few weeks ago I bought myself a brand new FM 10. I didn't know its many flaws compared to the older FM 2. It has no ADR, no motor drive, and no databack. Should I keep it in spite of its many flaws? Or should I look for a used FM 2 instead? If so, what should I look for in a used camera body? Does anyone have any suggestion? Please e-mail me, thanks a lot in advance...

Absolutely. The MD-12 is one of the dedicated system component for the FM3A. I think Nikon was quite considerate to design the camera to allow so much backward compatibilities with other accessories- it saves a great deal in upgrading cost.

I have a Nikon FM10 and plan to buy a SB 50DX flash unit(as I also want to use the flash with my Nikon N 65). Will it work with the FM10 camera once I use the flash in the manual mode? If not what inexpensive Nikon flash unit should I buy? Thanks for your advice.

To Pete: A zoom lens with 28-105mm focal length is not available as a Nikkor AI/AIS. Options are: 28-85mm, 35-70mm, 35-105mm, and 35-135mm (the latter two are not produced any longer, but available second hand). The 35-200mm is still available, but opinions about it are split.

Hi there, I've noticed that the D series of cameras come with two different shutter guards- one is knurled, the other smooth. Does anybody know why? Is it an age thing, or is one 'version' of camera better than the other? Thanks, Mick
