Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

Just bought a "near mint" FM2n. On the first dry firings the honetcomb shutter froze about 25% open!!!! I bought this as my reliable camera to fight the digital age! I did not even want to go FM3a because its more electronic. I am going to ask the seller to take it back, but if he is unfair... Is this problem common? Can I get it fixed? Fix it myself? Send it to whom? I am heartbroken and now broke. If possible you can also mail me directly: dand@oxy.edu dan2. From : ajith kumar (anuttama_das@vsnl.net)

I have a problem with my Nikon FM-10. The camera is consuming battery power at an enormously fast pace. The camera is only 6 months old, purchased in Indonesia. In the last 6 months, I must have exposed only about 15 rolls of film, but have already changed the LR-44 batteries, 5 times! I have already taken the camera to the best camera mechanic in Chennai city (where I stay) and had him check the light-meter circuit for any leakage. No leakage was found. What could be the problem, can anyone figure out? Thanks, Please email me at - anuttama_das@vsnl.net Ajith Kumar.3. From : Dagmar (dagnelson@yahoo.com)

I am currently looking for a new camera, have had a 1976 Chinon CE which needs a lot of work and a point-and-shoot, want to go back to a nicer camera. Narrowed it down to FM3A but it is way out of my budget. FM10 is pretty manual...something in-between would be nice. There is the FE10 which is what I need but it's sold in U.S. Don't know much about the older FMs - any suggestions? How is the FM10 holding up (body)? Manual is fine, but I do need aperture priority. Thanks!4. From : Ricardo Wilson (richoeNsusite@yahoo.com)

Joe and Michelle Persing: There seemed to have quite a number of Manual Focus Nikon SLR camera being introduced around year 1983. Since you mentioned the selling price is USD150-00 One would assume it must be a Nikon FG OR a good bargain for a Nikon FE2, Nikon FA or even an original Nikon FM2 camera. The best way (and make life easier for us) is to identify what is the model of the camera first before others can offer a third opinion for you. Don't worry, we are here to assist you. Cheers.5. My wife and I have begun looking for cameras, and are interested in Nikons. We are just getting started in photography and so we want to get a good used camera. We recently found a Nikon (1983) in excellent condition. The seller is asking $150 (it does include 1 lense, which we have not seen). Is this a good price, or do you recommend waiting. Thank you for your help.9. From : Gen Holst (genholst@excite.co.uk)

Xiaowei: I think you are referring to the Soligor Power Winder , check here at a link from the Nikon FM3A website: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfeseries/fefmshared/SoligorMD/index.htm
It was not intended to be used with the Nikon FM3A yet but it is fully compatible with Nikon FM2n. If you still want to be 100% sure of it, check with SOligor (leo provided an address with email contact at the bottom of that page). Cheers.10. Hi, I have a question here. I am looking for a thrid party winder for my FM2 (MD-11 and MD-12 are way way too expensive for me) :( I read the n-2TR winders introduced here, seems to be a good choice. Meanwhile, I also found some "n-2" winders at ebay. Have no idea what the brand is. I just wonder if anyone has any experience with those winders, and if they works on FM2? Thanks!
