Modern Classic SLRs Series : |
The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. To Keith Wills: You must not mount non-AI lenses to the Nikon FM3A, FM2, FE2, FA, etc. First, there is no exact metering, second, you may damage the camera or the lens. The only way to use non-AI lenses on these cameras is to have them revamped to AI lenses by a repair shop; but then, they cannot be used on the Nikkorrmat any longer.2. Someone has posted a series of serial numbers which help to identify the Nikon F at: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/messageboard/nikonfmsg/index.php3
Question is,is there a similar method that can help to identify the FM2/FM2n more positively rather than assuming the time period ? Just thought this may help to determine FAIR prices of used unit(s). Thanks, by the way, GREAT SITE !4. From : Priya (lakpriya27@yahoo.com)

I recently purchased an FM body for $189. It has a few small dings and the shutter had to be overhauled after the purchase. I have it back now but the shutter curtain still looks like it has markings on it. Anyone know if thats normal? The camera now has a six month warranty on it. And the meter won't work on bulb and one and two second shutter speeds. Thanks for any info...7. From : Rui Cardoso (Rui.S.Cardoso@netcabo.pt)

Hello All, I have a Nikon FM3a and found the following situation: When in Auto-Exposure mode the camera is actualy capable of exposure times longer than 8 seconds. I set the camera to ISO 50 with reduced ligthing and did some tests up to f22 (at this point the exposure time was arround one minute). Then I tried to put the lens cap on to check what was actually the maximum exposure time the camera would handle, after five minutes the camera still did not end the exposure, I discovered that rotating the shutter speed ring from Auto-Exposure to manual exposure releases the shutter and brings the camera back to life. Does anyone have a clue about this?... I'm thinking about contacting the Nikon services, but they are quite bad here in Portugal... All the best, -Rui8. From : Simone (simonsipo@libero.it)

I have bought a new FM3A with a new Tamron AF zoom lens. The problem is, some of my lenses which I had with the older Nikkormat FT2 just seems not behaving with the new camera (meter stays constant). I read through this very well illustrated FM3A site only to realize my camera may needs AI lens and I think that could have contributed to my problem. What should I do now ? Any response or recommendation via the board, please ( I am traveling right now).
