Modern Classic SLRs Series :
Nikon FM Series SLR camera models - Message Board/Guestbook

The Nikon FM Series is the longest serving model and the popular 35mm mechanical SLR in the market. In a series of fine camera design and manufacturing, Nikon introduced the Nikon FM dating back to 1977 which remains until today with a series of variations and updates. As every individual photographer has his own personal style to express himself visually while at the same time, maintain his own photographic equipment in a very personal manner, This section allows you to share mutual knowledge & experience among all Nikon FM series camera users. Some of the opinion presented in this site was very personal I hate to see them affecting a decision regardless it is an acceptance or rejection any of the models within the series. So, here is a section dedicated to all of you where you may also present yours. I do hope it is beneficial to all of you. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for some of these great SLR bodies by Nikon, its creator. The sync terminal (not the cover) on my FM2n came off, how can I pot in back ? A repairman said his method is to "hammer" the metal pice back in place and said Nikon technician only does it without you seeing, can or should I ???

Just curious, are the new screens for the FM3A brighter than the 2nd generation screen for the FM2n ? IF it does, can they be used on the older FM2 (x) and what exposure compensation would they require to be used on those bodies ??

I inherited some older Nikkor Manual focus lenses. Specifically a 35mm 2.8 and a 24mm 2.8. I've been using them for about a year now, and the results have been fantastic. My question is how do my older lenses (about 15-20 yrs old) stack up against the newer, faster ones? Not that I have any desire to upgrade, just wondering how my glass measures up to the new stuff. thanks

Dear webmaster, may I ask when can the Nikon FM3A website be up ? I have seen the link for a while but it is not working yet. I still want to wait for your specific review before I consider getting one unit as my second body to my Nikon F3. I know everyone is busy but as long as I know there is a commitment, I will still patiently wait for yours, take your time. Cheers.

Someone some time ago was looking for the connecting cord for a MF-12 databack. There is one currently for sale on Ebay at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1336627525 On the FM2/T issue the camera that was auctioned was labelled a "Limited Edition" came in a special case, etc. Not a dog or a dragon, so does anyone know about other Limited Edition series in individual cases?

To Mike: Assuming batteries are installed properly in your FM and lens cap is removed: put film advance lever in app. 60° position towards camera body in order to switch on meter, press shutter release button slightly, and watch in the viewfinder whether the o, +, or - sign (or two of them) are on for app. 16 seconds. They should change from - over o to + when you increase the aperture (e.g., going from f8 to f2.8) or increase the exposure time (e.g., from 1/250 to 1/30) when holding the camera in normal light situation ; if not, the meter is malfunctioning.

Firstly, I own an FM 2521873. Does that mean it is an FM, not an FM2 as people keep referring to? Secondly, I bought this second hand, without a manual and I have had three people tell me the light meter is broken and being a novice I am not sure that is the case. When I look inside I see on the right hand side a + o - (vertically) I'm assuming that's the meter, I have not seen this change no matter what I change on the camera. Can someone please verify this is what should change or light up when I have, working batteries, turn the aperature or the exposure settings? thank you!

I don't use my FM camera much, but/because I have had several problems with it. Three years ago, the light meter stopped functioning (no light, not the battery). I paid 150USD to have it serviced. About a month later the film advance lever/shutter release system jammed, so I had it reserviced, on warranty. Then a year later the film advance lever and shutter release mechanism jammed again. I took it to a different place to have it serviced, costing another 150USD. Shortly thereafter the same jamming thing happened. I successfully (by force) de-jammed it -- was at the top of Notre Dame and wanted a gargoyle shot -- but, ever since I have been nervous, partly because now there is no lever advance stopping mechanism (I can advance and advance and advance the film without having to release the shutter). Also, my light meter seems inaccurate. It won't register any F stop change and then all of a sudden will do a big jump from '+' to '-'. I have been avoiding taking it in again, but will soon, before the latest service warranty expires. I don't want to buy another camera, for sentimental reasons. Any suggstions ?
