Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

Dear Nolks,
i recieved via USPS insured, a used nikon 55mm micro nikkor f2.8 it journeyed half way across the nation... outwardly it appears perfect in every respect especially for a lens manufactured sometime in the 70's...(serial no. 220743)
however, there appear to be no aperture blades... when i turn the fstop ring i feel/hear nice little clicks yet the aperture blades remain *stuck* somewhere within the innards of this other wise fine glass... further, there is a little black tab that sticks up on the camera 'Mount' side of the nikkor lens which on other lens i own always feels 'spring loaded' and when actuated fully opens the aperture blades and returns them to the particular fstop setting... on this newly acquired 55mm micro the black tab is loose and flops around... when i shake the lens it clatters back and forth... finally, (as if this weren't enough)when i peer through the glass i see a very small circle or bubble dead center in the glass... is this some kind of feature in this particular lens?... a floating point or something?
obviously, i know little about lenses... especially, nikkors... however, in an attempt to complete a closeup photography project and after hours of homework i settled on the purchase of a single nikon F3 and this my only nikkor lens the 55mm micro f2.8
how can i quickly and accurately TROUBLE SHOOT this mechanical fault?
iam in a dilemma, should i return the lens and ask for my $160 back? or try and have it repaired? a choice i am reluctant to pursue... since lens repair can be VERY EXPENSIVE... i hate to think i may have been burned and if for any reason i can't recover my loss... what alternative can any of you folks suggest?
thank you for reading this far and pls excuse my windy woes...

I am curious if anyone out there has any information about the Canon 800mm f/3.8 and the 5200mm f/14 lenses. I know that they are TV lenses, and from what I have heard quite rare, but a friend of mine is looking for the 5200mm lens. If anyone knows how many were produced and/or how much they are currently selling for that would be much help to me.
Thank you5. From : Mark B (toddandsterling@earthlink.net)

I've got a Nikon FG-20 SLR. I recently came across a 400MM Vivitar telephoto lens (No.69033) It does not have the Nikon bayonet mount- it has a general screw on mount, which leads me to believe it may have been a 'generic' mount that had to be mated to a camera specific mount. Any ideas if a mount exists or whom I could contact to find out. Thanks!6. From : jacquie (jlmosher@taconic.net)

Joseph: Unfortunately the FD 70-210/f4.0 is renowned for vignetting at f = 210. Try to get the FD 80-200/f4.0 or FD 80-200/f.40L (the latter being rare and expensive) and get rid of the FD 70-210/f4.0.10.
