Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. Nikon Lens Folks, pls pardon the intrusion, but i have found no answer to my lens questions yet... I just got a used nikon F3hp... i am trying to accomplish some closeup photograpy and my old minolta SRT 303b just isn't up to the task... tho iam very much a novice in these matters... the camera i got came with the MD4 motordrive but no lens...

my query... will my Vivitar 24mm f2.8 MC lens fit on the Nikon? its an old lens and the box says "Interchangeable lens mount adapter system for most popular 35mm SLR cameras including EE models. Operates only with TX lens mount adapters... Accessory size 58mm" i got it for my minolta and also a set of three extension tubes... i sure would like to be able to use these on the nikon... failing that, prehaps there is an adapter that will accomadate this very dandy 24mm len and extension tubes... additionally i have the minolta MC Rokkor - PG 1:1.4 f=50mm that came with the 303b. i wonder if either of these lens will fit on the Nikon F3hp?

thanks for any information or directions to links that may enlighten me on these matters... marc forrest

Can anybody tell me about a 35mm lens. I saw it once on a friend's camera here in Stgo who was travelling by and the image that was something between a 28mm and the regular 50mm was very appealing. Before I order one from the net ( And I don't know where yet) I would like some honest feedback on this lens.

I am only a novice with a real love for the hobby.

Thank you very much.

Mike García: I'm sorry, it was a mistake. The table I say is at the Hans Marten's page:
http://www.wildpicture.com/pages/photography/fdsystem/fdsystem.htm The other one is also very useful, but without hood references.
Jaume ;-)

Mike Garcia: There are very useful tables for different kinds of lenses (standard, wide, tele, zoom, special) at the Hans Martens' page http://www.kjsl.com/canon-fd/lenses/table.html where you'll be able to find information about Lens Date Type Angle Built Min A Focus Focus Length Diameter Weight Filter Hood Remarks. Have a nice day! Jaume ;-)

Hi,

I just received my new A-1, and it looks pretty good. But the lens
that was on the body, a cheapo plastic Quantaray 35-70mm f3.5/4.5,
seems to have a problem: The aperture ring is stuck in an off-scale
position, _right_ to the A-setting. The lock button is not
depressable. The ring has some play, but cannot be convinced to move
to the A-position, let alone to one of the f-stop positions.
When I trigger the shutter, the lens _always_ stops down to a very
low aperture, I guess it's f22. The lens has a strange mount: It has
a bayonet-style release button, but the mount ring is turnable like a
breech-lock mount.
Any ideas how this could be fixed? There is a screw right behind the
A-setting lock button whose head stands out a couple of millimeters,
maybe loosening this allows to readjust the aperture ring?
I guess having this repaired by a professional is not worth it, so
I'm willing to fiddle with it a bit my own. After all, it would make
a good lens for those situations you would not want to use a more
expensive one...

Thanks,
Lars

I am using Olympus OM equipment. If its not too much trouble I would like to ask a technical question. I recently bought a silvernose 75-150mm zuiko and after about 2 weeks of owning the lens the focusing ring refused to focus to infinity(the furthest it went was the between the 10m and 30m mark. Is this a common problem with these lenses? I dropped it off for repairs today and store owner said its probably not very serious.....is he right ? - Mark -

Mike Garcia - this site (mir) lists the lens hoods in the individual specification of each lens. Start here:
