Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's MIR Guestbook | instead.

Rick Matheny: Your "...24mm f/4.5 AI and a 35mm f/4.5 PC..." sounded a little alient to me. I have not heard of such lenses produced by Nikon. PC-Nikkor 35mm f/3.5 was Nikon first lens designed for perpective control for their SLR (the world's first 28mm PC lens was a f/4.0 and not a slow f4.5); while the oldest 24mm Nikkor lens I can traced was a 24mm f/2.8. Well. do check your lenses and see if their are the Nikkor OR a third party lenses and "made for Nikon F-Mount" kind of explanations.. Naturally, the HN-1 (for 24mm's 84 degrees view field) and HN-3 Screw-in lens hood (74 degrees) lens hoods are corect types for both lenses BUT I am not so sure with the HN-12 your are referring. Good Luck.

Anthony Moscatelli: Thee are some basic info relating to the old Non-AI Nikkor (Older lenses tend to use cm rather than mm) at Micheal Liu's Nikon F site at: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/michaeliu/cameras/nikonf/oldernikkors/1stnikkors.htm

Harold White: It's different if your 135 is a Series 1 or not, and there were some variations... Visit the Robert Monaghan's Third party cult lenses page http://www.smu.edu/~rmonagha/third/cult.html where you'll find a lot of information about old, excellent Vivitars and others brands. He offers a lot of links to know all third party lenses classified by focal lenght, diameter, brand, and so that. Bob's compilation is superb!!!I hope it could be useful for you. Have a nice day. Jaume ;-)

1. I ask your suggestions to try a zoom for Canon A1 and T90: Old Vivitar Series 1 70-210/3,5 -the good one- or Canon New FD 80-200/4 -not the "L" one-? I know Canon has two rings and Vivitar one, Canon has lenshood and Vivitar hasn't it. What's about quality of images? 2. To the maintainer: Congratulations for your efforts and the new look but... -ever we have "but"- Could you remove the underlined of the text of the communications? Thanks a lot! Have a nice day. Jaume ;-)

Recently, I bought a Nikon FTN Chrome Body on Ebay. It's
serial # is 6497906. It has a Nikkor S 1:2 f=5 cm lens. In addition, it came with an extra lens Serial #733599. It's a Nikkor Q 1:3.5 f=13.5 cm. Does anyone know anything about this lens or this camera? The aperture range on the lens is from 3.5-22. The lens is only marked in feet. I can't seem to find a listing for this outfit in McBroom's Blue Book.

If anyone out there has any information, I would appreciate knowing. Thanks.

I have two wide angle nikon lenses: 24mm f/4.5 AI and a 35mm f/4.5 PC. They both use the HN1 lens shade. I have been having trouble with vignetting when I use the lens shade. It also happens when I use the polarizer and the HN12 shade. The wierd part is that it doesn't always happen. Sometimes there is no vignetting. It doen't seem to be related to aperture opening either because I often use f/22 for my shots. Anybody out there have any explanation? Advice?
Thanks

Hi! I just bought a FD 200mm f/4 Macro Lens from Japan and mount it onto my canon a-1 body. I foung that I cannot focus on infinity----there seems a limit on my focusing ring that stops me from focus further. Your site says that this lens can focus from infinity to 1.0x closeup. Then what happen with my lens(or camera?)? Appreciate your guidance. Henry
