Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. I have the opportunity to buy an FD 50mm 1.2 lens at around 100UKP - it appears to be in extremely good condition... is there really much difference between this and the 1.2L version - from the persepctive of a T90 user? (Given that the L version would be approx twice the cost to purchase)2. From : Spiros (melig@x-treme.gr)

TO VLAD: The mount is the familiar F mount but because the camera lacks the meter coupling lever, light metering can not be done with the AI, AIS lenses.Same thing with F60, F80, F65. It is frustrating, isn't it?3. From : jonequinn (yahuhai@yahoo.com)

Appreciate your help. I want to buy Fujifim camera Fine Pix S1 pro. And it is written that only AF and AI-P Nikon lenses can be used with it. I was not able to find information on AI-P lenses. I have quite a few AIS Nikon lenses and I am afraid that I will not be able to use them with Fuji camera. Can you explain me. Thanks5. From : Brando Greenman (brandogreenman@earthlink.net)

Hi, I recently found my dad's Nikkormat camera tucked away and in perfect condition. I've been using it and I love it but I'm looking to buy zoom lenses for it - I know they are hard to find (Ive looked!) I was wonder if anyone can email me with a vendor link or shop that might be selling these? Thanks in advance!6. From : Murray Woodburn (murray@sias.co.uk)

Hi there everyone - a recent convert from the sister T-90 site here. I am looking for a wide/med telephoto zoom, and the Canon New FD 28-85 f4 seems to fit the bill. I can't help but notice that this lens is still expensive second hand (a bit like the 35-105 f3.5) so since it appears to be keeping its value and is obviously sough after I reckon it must be quite good. However, the canon lens resource attached to this site is not particularly complementary about it. Any users of this lens out there who'd care to give me their opinion of it? Much appreciated. Regards everyone. Murray from Edinburgh7. From : Chris (cweidner@flash.net)

Help! I’ve had a Canon T50 (mid 80s) for many years now, and it’s time I stepped up to a zoom lens. Unfortunately (as I’ve just discovered), the T50 uses an FD style lens. After calling cameraworld.com, the only lens they have to fit is a Tokina (sp?) 20-70mm f/3-4.5. I was hoping to find a f/2.8 zoom. Should I consider a used Canon FD lens, or buy new? If used, where do you suggest I look? My goal is to keep the purchase as low as possible, as I’ll probably uprgrade to a modern SLR eventually. Thanks much! Chris8. From : Roz (rozkl@hotmail.com)

To Spiros:Have a great time shooting with your new lens. As for the AF version, the feel may not be as tight as with the MF since the AF motors will have a tough time turning it. But the drag will still be there, albeit slightly less. ------------------------------------------------------------------------9. From : Spiros (melig@x-treme.gr)

TO HERMANN:Thanks for the reply. TO HERMANN AND ROZ: I 'm going to buy the AF 50 f/1.4 soon. I hope it has good manual focus feeling as I 'll be using it with my FM2. It will replace my MF 50 f/1.8 which is awfull bellow f/5.6 and near its closest focus distance. And the 60 cm isn't that close compared with the 45 cm of the AF versions.10. To Spiros: The MF Nikkor 50 mm/f1.4, as for the aperture ring, "clicks" only at full fstops, but it is of course possible to select any fstop size in between (but there is no click then). The 50 mm f1.8 clicks at f1.8, f2.0, then f2.8, etc.
