Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. I recently purchased a Nikkor AI 1000mm reflex lens. The serial number is 143000, which is listed in the newer Nikon autofocus camera manuals as being the ending serial number of this lens. Does anyone have a lens serial number reference who can check to see if this is, indeed, the last 1000mm Nikkor reflex lens manufactured or is there another series after with a different (AF body compatible) mechanical configuration? Please email me along with a posting here. Thanks for any help.

RE : SPLIT-IMAGE RANGEFINDER VERSUS LENSES I have 2 Fs with Photomic FTn finders : one an R screen, and the other with an A screen. Clyde Reynolds Nikon Book from Amphoto page 24 states that "the rangefinder does not work properly with wide aperture (larger than f2.8) lenses." Question 1. Does Reynolds' comment refer to lenses whose smallest f stop value is less than f2.8 (e.g. f2 etc.), or does it refer to f stop values less than f2.8 on any lens? John Wolf's "The Nikon Guide" from Amphoto, page 23, states that "The Type R (screen) ... has etched grid lines ... and slightly different rangefinder prisms, making it suitable for lenses with smaller Type R screen better than the A screen on my Fs? Question 3. It seems to me that limitations of the split-image rangefinder should be well-known among the multitude of professional photographers who use/have used this classic camera - is nobody willing to share this secret with amateurs? If you're responding to this request for information, I'd really appreciate it if you could, in addition to posting on this forum, backchannel me at my Email address - I can barely discern the text letters on this board, because of interference from the background, as it appears on my monitor. Thanks ....... Glen

I have at last found THE LENS. It's an old, ugly, but razor sharp Canon FD 80-200 zoom. It doesent have any silly "macro-function", it focuses down to 1 meter, it has great convenience with two-ring-operation. Why I say its THE LENS? Well, I've been photgraphing for 25 years with lots of systems: Canon (manual), Olympus over many years, and so Minolta (9000 + lots of glass), and then Canon EOS for a period before I bought a Minolta 700si and a 7xi and a lot of lenses. Then I got bored of not having control over focusing and went back for the 3rd time to Canon T-90. And I still think THE TANK must be one of the best cameras ever made. And now I'm up to by some longer lenses. I am very short of money at the moment, and my question to you out there is: what will do the sharpes alternative of a TOKINA 500 mirror lens, or an original Canon 2x(B)-converter combined with my extraordinary FD 80-200?

have a ? - if a lens has hairline scratches will it affect the picture taken. Which is worse - the hairline scratches on the front or back elements. I observe that older manual lenses have a better built quality whereas the newer af models not so. But I also think that modern af lenses probably have better optics. How I wish that we can marry the construction fitness of manual lenses to the superiority of the newer optics. Regards Manaboleh

**Herb**: As long as your camera is a Nikon F2AS model or F2A (But NOT the case with F2, F2S, F2SB which are Non-AI bodies), any AF Nikkor lens can be used with your camera and metering will be done at full aperture. The trick is the meter coupling shoe on the lens that is missing on all AF Nikkor lenses, this means the Series E lenses will also behave like an AF lens as far as working with non-AI Nikon bodies (which they cannot be coupled for proper full open aperture metering).

I have a Nikon Photomic F2AS. Am interested in purchasing a Nikkor AF28-105mm lens. Will this lens fit my lens mounting and couple with the light meter? Thanks.

Hello! This site was introduced by my friend and I just finished 'surfing' it through. I am running a small tiny web site in Japan, the name of which is ' RLFC' stands for 'R-Leica Fan Club' as it said, it is a fan-club so that we are talking about R-Leica, body and lense, all day.Since there are some photos of the lenses and bodies. You might have been interested to see those. The site is located at http://homepage1.nifty.com/RLFC/ Warmest regards, Iwao Nomoto, Japan

###To Jay###You 're not facing the fungus case, because fungus expands on the inner elements' surfaces. If those stains don't go after applying lens cleaner, don't try rubbing the front element with anything else, since it may result to permanent damage (scratches). However, it's most likely that these stains won't have any noticable impact on the pictures. I know people who shoot clear photos with lenses with scratches on the outer front element surface. If you notice any impact, better take it to Canon service.

Hi, Can anyone tell me the difference between the Nikkor-H 28mm f3.5 lens that I own and the Nikkor-H C 28mm F3.5 lens. I own the former and have seen the latter and wonder what the "C" stands for. What is the difference between the 2 lenses. Thanks for any help.
