Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. I could use some info on Canon FD some lens. I am looking to fill the 100-200mm range of my outfit for my AE-1. I have looked at a few options, canon 80-200 f4, canon 80-200 f4L,using a 135 2.0 or 2.8 and a 200 2.8,or a "good" third party 80-200 2.8. What I need to know, is the L much better than the canon non L? Is the third party 2.8 going to have the image quality of the canon zooms (L and non L). And last but not at all least, in the real world how does a 80-200 2.8 handle WITH OUT a tripod. Since it is manuel focus, if it is a 2 touch I will be moving my left hand from focus to zoom. Please I need as much info as possible and opinions of brands. I normaly only buy Canon stuff, so this is new to me. Thanks Dana2. From : Tom (tewn2@cam.ac.uk)

Erm - Peter - good luck. The FD 200 1.8L is rarer than almost any other FD lens (except perhaps the 150-600). It was the last FD lens produced by Canon and currently retails at about the $2000 mark. Your best bet is to check eBay and KEH; and regularly, because they sell fast.3. From : Peter (psaier@expert-international.com)

#Steve McCall#: I think you must be referring the old FD lens of FD 55mm f1.2 S.S.C.. There is a short summary on a few of the older versions of FD optics here at: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/earlyfdlenses/50mmfd.htm#f1.2 .Since you have a unit, I am sure no one knows more about the lens than you do - why don't you consider sharing your experiences and perhaps send some images to us and see if we can port it in the site.

As a long time owner of a F-1 N, I was delighted to find this site, however, was surprised not to find any information on the 55mm 1.2 lens, which is probably the lens that I use the most. Any reason for the omission, also I would be interested to know why this lens is fairly rare (I've never seen one in the second hand/used pages)?6. I need information to a mythical Canon lens : the FL 1:14 / 5200 mm. That's not a misprint ! Without doubt, this lens is mentioned in a ordinary Canon-SLR-catalog from 1976 (German edition). Backcover text / Publication code is "German edition ZC900.03.100.0376, copyright Canon Amsterdam N.V." I don't know datas or pictures about this incredible optic, only one hint results of Canon's nomenclature for lenses : If the term "FL" is correct, then this lens is built without mirrors and must be long a few of meters ! (Not easy to handle, not even for an Arnold Schwarzenegger or similar man). Well, i see it as a curio of canon history, but yesterday, a man of a television company poste me, he uses longest lenses and needs more infos ! Does anybody know more about this lens ? Best regards and thanks to all ! Heinrich7. From : Sae-Young Chung (sychung@mit.edu)

Help! Does any one know where to get a Nikkor 6mm fisheye lens? It seems very hard to find one these days. I am willing to pay a $100 reward for information leading to the purchase of one of these.8. From : Dan (dan_h@efn.org)

I own a Canon A-1 and want to purchase a 70-210 zoom for it. I've narrowed it down to the Canon 70-210 f4 and the Vivitar Series 1 70-210. I can find the Series 1 for quite a bit cheaper than the Canon but how does it compare optically? I guess I want to know which lens would be the better choice. I'm strictly an amateur but I'm fairly critical about the quality of my photographs. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks9. From : michael (tastymandm@attmysite.com)

Can someone give comments on the Canon S mount 50mm f/0.95 for its rangefinders? It's marketed from 1961 .....it's been popular a long time ago.

Franklin Corfutt#: Frankly, I think a more logical choice could be the new AF Micro-Nikkor Zoom 70-180mm f4.5-5.6D ED. You can check it out in many other sites on the Net OR try here in the F3 section which I think should be sufficient for your reference: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/macro/macro1.htm By the way, I did owned a 105mm Micro-Nikkor previously, out of favour when I have found a new love with a longer arm in the AF-D Micro Nikkor 200mm f4.0 EDIF but it is damn too expensive although based on quality and optical factors - It is easily rated as one of the finest among the Nikkor and worths every penny of it !
