Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..
Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. If your intention is to dispose your optics or looking for any used unit, please use the Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. Canon EF USM 'L' lenses. I would be pleased if I could seek your assistance, to help me decide on the purchase of one of the following lenses:....... 1) 200mm- f2.8 (second-hand),....... 2)70-200mm- f4 (new),....... 3) 300mm- f4 (second-hand)....... 4) 70-200mm- f2.8 (second-hand). My main subjects are birds and lizards. Not for use at extra-long range (I have a tripod and a 600 glass for that). The camera is Canon EOS-5 and Manfrotto monopod. The 300mm- f4 is probably the heaviest lens I would consider (around 1,200 grams). I have a 1.4 X extender that I will want to use occasionally. At this time I am favouring the 200mm-f2.8 lens. Oh! I do like to use a "fill"-flash when close enough. ............. Thankyou.

THANK YOU JENS BAUMANN FOR THE WEB SITES INFO. YOU ARE RIGHT. MANY OF THESE NEW AF ZOOM LENS ARE TERRIBLE ACCORDING TO THE SURVEYS. I LOOKED UP SOME OF THE ORIGINAL REVIEW ARTICLES OF SOME OF THESE PRODUCTS (NIKON OR TAMRON 28-200, AND OTHERS ) IN THE POPULAR MAGAZINES. GUESS WHAT - THEY ALL GOT SPECTECULAR REVIEWS !! THIS REMINDS ME OF THE 1970'S WHEN ROAD AND TRACK GAVE GOOD REVIEWS TO FORD PINTOS AND AMC PACER. ON A SERIOUS NOTE, MAYBE I SHOULD RECONSIDER CARRYING MULTIPLE LENSES AND FORGET ABOUT THE TEMPTATION OF ONE LENS OUTINGS.6. From : shah (wshah@maxis.com.my)

Hi all!!I'm still new in SLR photography since August 99. Currently I'm using F60 with Tamron 28-200 f3.8-5.6.Mid Oct 99 my Tamron macro focusing ring give way.It can't stop rotating during focusing, I sent it back to local photo shop where I purchased it and replaced. I still waiting for Nikkor 24-120 f3.3-5.6 as replacement. My concern now, is there anybody having such problem with Tamron and is my choice by taking Nikkor 24-120 is a good deal(although I've to put some more cash)?. Is anybody encounter any problem with Nikkor 24-120? Thank you :-)

TO CLETE: Any of the EF telephoto zooms or single focal length EF telephoto lens is suitable for wildlife photography. As for which lens to choose from the EF System, this will depend on your type of budget but both the EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 III and EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 III USM zoom lenses are excellent as well as the EF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM. The Canon EF Extenders 1.4x and 2x can be used with all single focal length EF lenses of 135mm and above (except for the EF 135mm f/2.8 Soft Focus) as well as zoom lenses like the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM and EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM including the newly-launched EF 70-200mm f/4L USM.8. Well, I do not know anything about Tamron manufacturing the Nikon lens, but I _do_ know that the Nikon lens is (for Nikon standards) really, really bad. See http://www.photodo.com or http://www.photozone.de for reviews and compare the score to other Nikon lenses. To sum it up: do not buy it.9. From : PETER (PETERT@MAILCITY.COM)

THERE IS A RUMOR THAT THE NEW NIKON 28-200 AF ASPHERICAL ZOOM IS MADE BY TAMRON OR THEY ARE IDENTICAL. IS THIS A KNOWN FACT FOR MOST PEOPLE OR AM I UNDER-INFORMED. I AM THINKING ABOUT BUYING ONE OF THEM. BUT IF THEY ARE " SO IDENTICAL ", MAYBE I DON'T NEED TO PAY DOUBLE FOR THE NIKON LENS. I PLAN TO USE THE ZOOM WITH MY OLD F2 OR FE. ANY COMMENT OR EXPERIENCE WITH EITHER LENS ?

I have a Canon EOS Rebel G, and I would like to find a lens suitable for wildlife photography. Please offer your suggestions. Also, do they make a extender for my camera?
