Sometimes we all become too interested in the camera body because that is where most of the gadgets are. But it is the lens that makes the picture and most often the lens has a more direct influence on the eventual image quality 'output'. If economy is a consideration, you should consider buy a less expensive camera body rather than less expensive lenses. If you buy a SLR camera with only one lens is also not logical because you might as well buy a cheaper camera with a fixed, non-interchangeable lens like a P&S. But modern lenses has such fantastic features such as high power zoom with previously unimaginable zoom range which actually makes a single-lens-do-all photographic system viable. All those messages posted on the variuos Message Boards for SLR Models are not short of interesting comment and remarks on lenses. Well, not to confuse others who are just interested in cameras, I thought there is a neccessity for a separate Message Board for those who are interested in discussion on various issues on lenses as well..

Unlike the Message designed for camera of various makes, this MB is one-for-all type and thus I hope this section can be maintained as a peaceful zone. The maintainer of this site reserved all the right to censor or even delete any un-related, excessively hostile messages posted herein. This site is specifically created just for lenses. Thanks, James. Poor choice of words on my part; lens is really NOT trusty at all. This is repair (cleaning) #3 by "professional" shop, still manages to goo itself back up. As to whether I can do this myself, what better object to practice on than a paperweight!! How-to suggestions, anyone?

To Lad: Unless you are experienced at disassembling/reassembling camera lenses I'd advise you to send the lens to a proper service centre to get it done. You just might make matters worst. And if the lens keeps oozing that goo on your aperture blades even after cleaning I think it is high time you retire it to a more relaxed life as a paper weight, because if it keeps doing that (oozing goo) it is not trusty anymore.

Help!! I have a trusty FD 50mm f1.8 that keeps precipitating goo on the aperature blades, making them not stop-down when exposing a frame. Does anyone know how to take the lens apart and clean the aperature mechanism? Thanks in advance.

The alternative is switch to higher ISO film. If you have been shooting with ISO 50 or 100 film, switching to an ISO 200 or 400 film will help solve most, if not all, of your camera shake problem. The new Fujicolor Superia 400 with REALA technology gives out color rendition, sharpness and contrast equivalent to an ISO 100 film. I have never used the EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 lens with ISO 100 film previously, only ISO 400 and higher, which is why I don't experience camera shake problem. If you are an avid shooter, going through 20 rolls or more film per month, then the EF 28-135mm IS lens is a better choice. If you shoot less than 5 rolls per month, it is not.

I recently bought an EOS300 with EF 28-105mm f3.5 4.5 USM. My next lense will be the new EF 70-200mm f4 L USM. However I have this feeling keep haunting me with my current lense. That is should I keep my current lense or should I change it to the EF 28-135mm f3.5 5.6 USM IS. I am no expert in this and would like your opinion as to how much I will benefit from the IS feature. I have taken several photos with my camera and some pictures do have significant camera shake. But does that justify if I change the lense. Or unless there is a better technique to use with my current lense so that I will not suffer camera handshake and save the money for my next lense. Your help will be much appreciated from your expert advise. Thanks. Ron

I would like to know if there is a resource available to look up the resolution of lenses. If one wanted to base their buying decision on who manufactures a lens with the highest resolution, where would one find this information (i.e. number of line pairs per inch vs. lens size).
