I've always been fascinated by the langue of the symbols in traffic signs etc. Here the simplified form matches form behind it almost 100%, including the scale, creating interesting comparison. By luck the line of the smoke matches the line of the edge of the sign too. This was one of the first shots I took when visiting this "wasteland" by the sea with somewhat moonlike surface where nothing was growing at that time. I didn't have a tripod with me so this was shot handheld. I tried couple different compositions but this was by far the best, unfortunately I only took one frame with this composition. The land is quite dark and scanner didn't do a very good job with it. The purpose of the sign is to help ships to navigate. | close | Copyright © images 2000.
