Auditor, Accountant or a Merchant Banker?

Simple, be a Merchant Banker if you can.

Auditors verify financial that were already made a reality; accountants may still able to play around before certify such reality. So, you probably have heard of "creative accountant" but no body called an auditor as "creative auditor". However, both of these professions can be categorized similarly as they are dealing with events that have already happened.

Unlike accountant and auditors who are resolving the past, Merchant Banker is more leaning towards the future and unknown. So between a choice where you can try to shape the future or merely reviewing the past. I will choose the former because the job nature is challenging. Most people feel, merchant bankers are free thinkers and usually has a more adventurous character.

They work liked an equalizers or a financial solution provider and that is why they are more welcome by businessmen than accountants or auditors. Some sizzling local names such as Azman Yahya, Nasir Razak etc. came from a merchant banking background. Many Malaysian corporate icons were also ex-merchant bankers themselves. Well, not all are okay and while some seasoned bankers experienced high and low in their career but their adaptive nature usually enable them to bounced back if given another chance.

Well, I cannot be so conclusive as most often people with auditing background have a more discipline character in comparison. They are the best in the business when money is in their custody. Some respectable names like Hassan Merican, Azizan and the late Tun Ismail Ali are/were born naturally to be a $$ caretaker; their instinctive nature next is how to invest safely with moneys in hand and working towards double or triple the EPS with proper and smart investment later.

How about an auditor turn to be a merchant banker ?
Wow...their business instinct will usually help them to "smell" where the moneys are. And they are very good in distinguishing public funds or individual financial source. Well, whether you know them or you don't, you have to respect them as they deliver their best role in their profession. It is sometimes, a joy to observe the best of brains at work, for good or for bad.
