".... The Leica M3 was a 35 mm rangefinder camera by Leica, introduced in 1954. It was a new starting point for Leitz, which until then had only produced screw-mount Leica cameras that were incremental improvements to its original Leica (Ur-Leica). The M3 introduced several features to the Leica, among them the combination of viewfinder and rangefinder in one bright window, and a bayonet lens mount. This new bayonet mount, which has not been changed in the following half century, is called the Leica M mount. Lenses are changed faster than with a screw mount, and framelines set automatically. Non Leitz/Leica bayonet-mount lenses can also be used and a simple adapter also allows the use of screw-mount lenses (whether from Leitz or other companies). When compared to a Leica IIIf (the previous Leica release), the M3 has an exceptionally bright viewfinder. It has a high magnification factor, which is very useful in critical focusing.

This camera body is in great shape, basically mint. There are only few, faint, tiny signs on the chrome finish, along the top edge. Shutter fires properly at all speeds. Shutter curtain is clean and moving freely. Please look at the pin-head whitish spot on the curtain, last photo.

This unit has the ID #984116 and is one of the rare Leica LEITZ CANADA, MIDLAND, ONTARIO (1959) !
