Steve, To permanently solve the battery problem with Canon F1 (and FTb etc.), the best way I have found is to have the meter recalibrated. Then you can just use the alkaline 1.5 V batteries that are easily available. Living in western Canada, I had my F1 and FTb readjusted by Camdex (Camtex?) in Vancouver, BC. These technicians have done this routinely and claim that the recalibration procedure gives a linear result for the range of the meter, which therefore will be accurate for all light intensities (e.g. in contrast to setting the film speed differently to compensate for the battery voltage, which results in a non-linear response). After recalibration I have had good results using 1.5 V batteries (my usage includes slide film). The procedure cost me about US$40 for each camera. Cheers, Knut

Hi all, I just picked up a used Canon Transistor Pack G with charger and Ni-Cad pack, but no instructions. Does anyone know how long the Ni-Cad pack needs to be charged? Thanks for your help! Paul

Hello, great site! I own an F1 camera body and a booster T finder prism. My query concerns the booster T finder. In short, it is powered by a silver oxide battery which I have found to be unobtainable. Anybody know of a scource for the appropriate battery or can suggest a viable alternative? Otherwise my finder will simply collect dust when I would much rather be using it!

I just purchased a F1 and was wondering where I might be able to purchase a 1.3v battery, or one of the converters that are mentioned below. Also, are the 1.4v batteries O.K. to use without affecting the meter. Thanks, Steve

Yes the F-1 has a hinged cover next to the lens mount. Its where the Servo EE apperture arm connects to the body. Without it you can get light leaks. Its a tough replacement part to locate since it has to obtained from a parts body. I have never seen one in new condition. The Lake Placid is worth a bit more than a normal F-1n unless its at least mint - with the original box, which would kick it up to $500 at the most nowdays. There is a used Lake Placid right now at ebay for $975buy it now , which is way way way tooo high for a used one let alone a mint example.

I have a canon f1n -- it's in great shape but there are some annoying dust specks ...and even a tiny live bug! -- in the viewfinder. Is there a safe way to clean the viewfinder without damaging the optics or finder? cheers Rick

Does anyone know of a place that can fix a Canon MF motor drive? I have already sent it to Chicago and they have no parts. Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks
