It is indeed a sad state to see the FD mount New Canon F-1
has to retired from service this way; it cannot even enjoy potential
benefit to utilize the more advance electronic EF mount as with the EOS
users back in 1986. As a detaching system users, you may use this site
for common support and sharing mutual knowledge or experiences among
yourself. Ihope this convenience provided can be of useful to all of
you who still owned this great piece of manual focus SLR. You may use
this message board as a guestbook for the camera. Enjoy.

Brian Davis - Congratulations, an F-1 for £49, a true bargain and an excellent camera. You need Canon FD lenses for it, they are readily available second hand (look at mxvphotographic.com, ffordes.com or solophoto.co.uk for an idea of UK prices). They come in two forms, with a (silver) locking ring (called breechlock or with a silver "push button" (sometimes called "New FD" or FDn"). An alternative is third party lenses, e.g. Tamron, Tokina, Sigma, there are plenty of these around also. The camera was made from 1971-81 (as you probably read on this site) so parts are likely to be expensive/difficult to find. On this note, be a aware that Canon no longer "support" this camera (or any of theie older manual focus models. Otherwise - enjoy!
Cheers,

Recently I found my old F1 camera body which I had put in storage over 20 years ago when the shutter developed a bounce and I obtained an overexposed strip on the side of each photo. Don't know if this was a common problem with the F1, but am looking for a source to repair and get operational again.

I visited my local second-hand store the other dasy and to my surprise saw a near pristine Canon F1 for sale. The price? - £49. I snapped it up and found that it is in perfect working order. I know very little about this very solid beast and if anyone would give me some advice about it qualities, good and bad, and the availabilty of lenses etc. I should be very grateful4. I wandered into a second-hand shop and to my surprise I saw a very clean F1 for sale at a very low price. I snapped it up. Once I got home I played around with it, got stuck once or twice, then got some advice from a local dealer. It is in perfect working order and apparently has hardly been used. I am very pleased with myself! It is a solid beast and seems to ooze quality.

I have a F1, Bellows, and Booster-T finder. I have successfully used the bellows for color and B/W, but want to get "more acurate" results with my metering.
I love this site, but was unable to glean any instructions how to work with said equipment, can anyone email me with any info?
Anyways, essentially I don't want to waste any film using the bellows (oh, FD 50mm 1:1.4), and would like to have confidence in what I am taking picture of (ie, it is frustrating to shoot a roll or two of film, and find black or white images). I know that I can write down my settings and go by trial and error, I would rather have a specific formula for getting my settings right the first time.
Thanks!6. From : Bryan Swain (www.csoul07@aol.com)

Don Boyd - www.ffordes.com are advertising a Canon eyecup R for £4 (about $6?). They're in the UK but I've no idea if they will post things overseas, maybe the postage would cost more than the eyecup (if they still have it in stock that is!). Might be worth a try??? Another thing that I'd like to add about the previous posting below... The F-1 Screen Y is a clear glass screen, not matte! Iit has an oversized circular center. 3x the size of my C screen center. When you stop down the lens it dramatically darkens outside the center. With each apperature change the darkness grows closer to the center. Thats why I think its a servo ee screen .With Apperature Wide it seems quicker to focus. Lindy
