First, I would like to thank the owner of this site for all their hard work. It is very informative. A friend of mine is selling a Canon F-1n. I would like to buy it as I think the F-1 is a beautiful camera. The camera body is in great condition. It was very well cared for, and shows little sign of use. The came body show almost no wear except some very minor scuffs in the bottom plate. The camera comes with five focusing screens (All Matte Type C, Split-Image/Microprism Type E, Focusing Screen (Matte/Section) L-D, Focusing Screen (Matte/Scale) H, and Microprism/Small Aperture Lenses G), a Flash Coupler L, a Waist Level Finder, and a Booster T Finder. All the accessories come in their original packaging and seem to be in the same great condition as the body. He is asking $500.00 for everything. Is this a good buy? I was alo wondering what you people think about the future of the old F-1s. Will they appreciate in value? Or depreciate ?2. From : MikeH (cheshire@clara.net)

Thanks for the advice Mark. Yes, it is the *MERCURY* PX625 battery, so something's obviously wrong. I didn't have time to take it to a repairer to check it out, so have returned it to the seller. I'm still looking for a nice/mint F1 plus other bits such as lenses and accessories. I am in the UK. If anyone is thinking of selling up contact me. Cheers, Mike3. From : Mark (md644@hotmail.com)

MikeH - are you using a *MERCURY* PX625 battery which is what the F-1's electronics are designed for. The mercury PX625 is 1.3V and can be difficult to find (illegal for "environmental reasons" in many countries, but you can get them if you shop around). If you are using an ALKALINE PX625, the voltage is too high (1.5V) and this would give incorrect meter readings as the battery provides a reference voltage to the electronics. If you look through the archives here you should find more about it....Hope this points you in the right direction - Mark.4. From : Tom Hoover (thoover@mgc.state.ms.us)

I have been a Canon enthusiast for many years, and have just purchased a Canon F1 at a reasonable price. The F1 is in very good condition and all the functions seem to work well except for the light metering system. Although it appears to work normally, this is reading 2 to 3 stops too low. Is this likely to be just adjustment, or is it possible that an expensive repair is required? The owner said that he wasn't aware of a problem, but will be willing to refund the money and take the F1 back. Any advice would be welcome.6. From : Mark (md644@hotmail.com)

Ken Bruno - you are correct, the F-1 was modified in 1976 to include ISO 3200 meter setting (increased from ISO 2000), spring loaded battery check switch, and (this is the easy one to spot) a plastic tip on the film advance lever. I think there was also a change in the travel on the film advance lever to make it easier/faster to use. This versios is often referred to as the F-1n (small n). All accessories (finders, screens, winders etc.) will fit both versions. Hope this helps, Mark.7. From : carsten zahout (carsten@zahout.de)

Greetings, I am looking to purchase an F-1 and had heard that the original F-1 was improved by the addition of a few items including an increase in the ASA rating to 3200. Does anyone know if this is true? (I do understand that the F-1N has a 6400 rating. If the earlier version did go to 3200, I would be more interested in that particular model) Many thanks Ken9. For a newbie, can anybody tell me how much I can expect to pay for the manual original Canon F1 (just the body)?
Is it still reasonably easy to get the manual L series of lenses, like the 24mm f/1.4; the 50mm f/1.2 and the 85mm f/1.2? Thank You, any help would be appreciated!
