There are 3 ways of asking people to pay you moneys yet they still think you are a hero ...

It is possible if everyone is in a state of Fear ...

Most successful corporate icons will generally share with you their successful business equations: Success = 90% Hard Work, 10% Luck ... However, the biggest opera show on earth, the Y2K episode has challenged many business theories. But since that scenario is a millennium affair, so it may not happened again until there is another similar landscape to allow opportunists again reaping everybody's pockets one more time ....

However, it has also inspired many people of how to replicate similar situation in a smaller scales and making BIG moneys from it. HOW >? Because if you can make someone feeling scare, FEAR will STRIKE. If someone feels his/her life is threatened, and when the minds was set in such a confusing state, they will usually approve anything you need to spend on just to have a peace of mind. Remember towards the end of year 1999 ? Some quick thinking minds have been irresponsibly spreading disturbing news such as nuclear missiles may be wrongly launched, hyfro-electrical dams could be collapsed, there will be no power supplies for weeks to come....and that has made a lot of people felt very rotten everyday as the year end approaches.

So, on a business front, you may find many multi-international Companies locating at many foreign soils were busy allocating budget of millions of dollars buying bugs-patching software to rectify any possible dangers & mishaps as they claimed. Well, to me, that looked more like channeling moneys back home legally even with the help from World financial monitoring institution by putting a magical tag called "Y2K compliance". If you don't have the funding to check whether your system was Y2K compliance, No problems, low interest Y2K loan from UN or World Bank were also readily provided. Were all those Y2K funds free? No. They were simply Loans.

What's wrong with that ? Well, I thought the good intention has been abused to serve different kind of objective. We didn't created those Computers, it is just ridiculous for the same consumers to spend 3X or 4X the money just to check or patch some possible mistakes which, in the first place was created by the respective suppliers who sold them the system. Well. every Computer guys knew Y2K was a joke, because most of the time, the million of dollars spent on Y2K was more than the cost of the entire system combined ! A friend of mine who was an IT head in a large organization complained, they asked for RM8 million just to check whether my system was Y2K compliance, but then even if the ENTIRE hardware and software were replaced , it will cost less than 2 million !

Worst still, the Y2K has provided a valid reason for everyone involved to tap on funds that never been so easy to put a hand on. Based on an estimation, the global Y2k expenditure was approx. 500 billion worldwide. (let me just show you how is that figure looks like: it is something like ... USD5,000,000,000,000-00

How Nice, huh ? BUT strangely, I would assume those Companies involved in making those possible erratic computers or software must be active Y2K solution providers, right ? So the profits and turnover of the financial year of 1999/2000 for all the top 50 IT Companies in US SHOULD be at explosively high figure, huh ? Did you do a calculation of a combined turnover of these Companies against the financial year a year earlier in 1998/1999 ? probably not.... Can we assume big portion of this moneys have also been channeled into pockets of the individual rather than to the Company's account. That kind of BIG Money has contributed both the Dow Jones and NASDAQ catapulted to an all time high in 1999/2000. After all, US treasury does not have to print so many paper notes then ..

Bastard.... you must be cursing me..
