Other Advance Functions/Features

Auto Exposure Bracketing An Auto Exposure Bracketing provides "insurance" shots - tricky situations when you are not very certain of the results in AUTO mode. This program automatically makes three exposures of the same scene - one under, one over, and one at the standard metered value. You can even adjust the amount of under and over- exposure by up to five stops in 1/2 stop increments and even
shoots at 3-exposures sequence at full speed (Max. busting rate of 5 fps) under a second. IIn operation, both shutter speed and aperture will be shifted in Program AE mode. Shutter speed is shifted when using Av, DEP and Manual mode and in Tv mode only the aperture will be shifted. Flash is not workable in AEB.

EOSAEBillus.jpg
WARNING: AEB will not work in any of the PIC modes. This will remains operational until the camera has been reset back to neutral value (0).

QUICK START: Depress the blue FUNC button 4 X until AEB appears in the LCD display. Use the main dial to set your preferred value which can fine tune to 1/2 stop increments up to 5 stops. The camera will shoot at at three initial exposures from underexposed, correct and an overexposed frame. Although some selective EOS bodies also offer this feature but the EOS10 provides a different sequence from others.

Multiple Exposures indicates by "ME" at the display. A popular technique among amateurs and even pros are using this in many situations or as a solution provider. To use this mode, press the blue FUNC button 3X until ME appears in the LCD. Use the main dial to change any number of exposures you preferred "1" is the default number of exposure but you can take up to 9 images on a single frame but not operational when you are operating in PIC mode. The ME display flashes during a multiple exposure operational sequence. Try experimenting with progressive action shots. It can be canceled during operations (dial the setting back until there is no number in the LCD display panel). But the camera will revert back to normal shooting once the preset number has been completed. Multiple exposures shooting may require to adjust exposure compensation by either using the manual ISO setting or use manual exposure control to allow some compensation via either aperture or shutter speed set.

Interval Timer ("Intervalometer"): A feature unique to the 10/10s among all EOS cameras is a built-in intervalometer. You can set up the camera to fire automatically, exposing from two frames up to a full roll of 36. The intervals between each shot can be adjusted, too, from only one second to 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds. It's what you need to explore fascinating time-lapse photography. The timer can also control the flash but again, it does not work in the PIC modes. To use: press blue FUNC button 5X until "INT" appears at the LCD display. Depress partial metering button once to activate the various values (hour (0-23), minutes and seconds respectively. Programmed interval time from 1 second to 23 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds is possible. The LCD INT icon will keep flashing to remind you are in Timer mode. To turn off the sequence, just set the value back to 1. The interval timer can operate at the same time with multiple exposure for creative applications.

Auto film loading The EOS10 was also the first Canon camera to use a sprocketless film drive system. Replacing conventional sprocket drive with an IRED (infrared emitting diode) detector which beams from the film surface. The system counts number of sprocket holes to determine number of frames as well as frame number for film advance and rewind. The advantage was a reduced friction mechanism and less moving parts with very accurate frame spacing. However, the unique feature prohibits the camera as an ideal choice for some special application film types such as IR film types.

AF assist light. An infrared autofocus assist light is built-in. It is supposedly to help AF work when using the camera in low light situations as well as assisting camera to search for focus on less distinguishable subject since the infrared red can have a better detection capability to detect horizontal lines.

Bulb Exposures The exposure reading of the EOS-10 has some limitations. In certain situations, assuming you will need to shoot past exposure time of 30 seconds and beyond, you can turn to manual mode and use the “bulb” exposure mode. It makes the shutter stays open for as long as you keep shutter release button depressed. The exposure is entirely user determined. As the camera does not have a threaded shutter button and you cannot make use of a conventional lockable shutter release cable with the camera, use the Canon RC-1 Remote unit is advisable than using your finder to avoid camera shake (alternate way is to use the built-in Custom Function No. 13). Note: AEB will NOT work in this mode. The EOS-10 has an unusual feature at the bulb mode where it does not drain any power from the camera during time exposure.

Mirror Lock up A feature that has been missing from the feature listing in many of the EOS series bodies. With Custome Function No. 14, it is possible to lock up the mirror for absolute mirror-bounce free photography. Critically at times in high magnification works without artifical illumination and/or special applications such as astro-photography or super-telephotography.

  ON/OFF

Turn the camera OFF.
  Beeper.

EOS 10 has a popular feature among many amateurstic feature of a beeper. As long as you are not operating in PIC mode, It is cancelable Press blue FUNC button 6X times will have the beeper icon displays at the LCD display. The main dial controls between Y which signifies beeper on or N beeper off settings. It beeps rapidly when focus is achieved in one shot AF mode; when beeping rapidly , it is an alert to warn possible camera shake; during self timer operation, it will beep normally as countdown process begins. Custom Function 6 can disable camera shake warning beep.
Power Status   As power is critically important for any electronic camera, the EOS-10 has many indications to warn users in relation to power usage of the camera. The camera camera uses 1 x 2CR5 lithium battery. The power status will be shown at the top-deck LCD display at any one time the camera is switch on. The power status shows three settings - full, half-drained condition) and near depletion status with a blinking half-used symbol. When a “bc” “battery check" symbol appears at each camera's startup, always check if you should require to change the power cell, as with any electronic SLR cameras, the camera will just drop dead once the power is below operation condition as all functions of the camera will not be functioning without usable batteries installed inside the camera. (the store memories are handled by another cell).
Camera shake alert   If for any calculated exposure by the camera metering system indicating the shutter speed is below hand holdable speed, the EOS10 will display a camera symbol with wobbly lines blinking where flash or the use of a tripod is recommended. The camera is programmed to prevent you from taking a photo but it is cancelable via Custom Function 14 in the EOS10.
Self-timer   Unlike mechanical SLRs, the EOS10 has a button type setting. It locates at the right-hand top-deck button with an indication of a marked icon of a clock and an IR transmitter and it is also shown at the camera’s top deck LCD display panel. With this turn on, depressing shutter release begin a 10 sec. countdown with the AF assist light flashing and, if the beeper is enabled, will also beep. Both flashing lights and beeping increase in speed at the last 2 seconds before the shutter opens. It is cancelable even if the operation has began by pressing the top-deck timer/remote button again. One way to reduce camera shake in any situation that require absolute minimal mirror movement, use the Custom Function 13 to lift the reflex mirror upwards.
Mid-roll rewind   Pushing the mid-roll rewind button will rewind the film before it’ ends. Locates at the camera’s base plate. Custom function 2 enables the leader-out function during rewind.
Continuous Film Advance mode   In this mode the camera's continuous shooting can reach as high as 5 frames per second and 3.3 fps in AI servo mode.
Single-frame Film Advance   n this mode, the camera takes one frame for each push of the shutter release button.
Barcode mode   Indicating operating the barcode operations, it requires a portable Barcode reader to work in conjunction.

CUSTOM FUNCTION CONTROL CHART As each of us likes to set up a camera a little differently. The EOS 10's custom function feature has been designed to provide maximum user flexibility, with a complete selection of custom function controls to choose from.
