I've got a XD-5, I'm its fourth owner. My XD-5 works fine, but it seems to have trouble with his back, it has a slack and let light enter. I know there was a data back for the XD models, perhaps can I remove my back to adjust it. But why can I remove it ? Sorry for my poor english.

  2. From clive rowland (Sat Apr 21 00:36:01 2001 ):
I have a minolta XD11 which is perfectly healthy but last year I dropped the battery cover in a river and I need another one. Any ideas from anyone? Many thanks, Clive.

  3. From james Brady (Thu Apr 12 10:35:50 2001 ):
Hello, I recently inherited two minolta cameras from my grandfather. One is a xd11 model, it is in fairly good condition, however, it needs a good cleaning. The screen (I believe this is what it is called) appears to be scratched. I have had several opinions that vary. Most have told me that the camera is not worth putting money into. what is your opinion of the cameras value? I appreciate any help or insight you could give me. The other camera is a minolta srT202 it is badly in need of repair. the lens is stuck on the camera body and will not come off. When you look into the view finder it is so badly scratched that you can barely see through it to focus the lens. There is also what appears to be a bug stuck inside. This camera appears to be newer and came with the original owners manual. What is your opinion of this as far as value? Is it worth fixing, or do I have just nice artifacts to remember my grand father? Sincerely, James Brady

  4. From Anuar Bin Ahmad (Tue Apr 10 15:24:04 2001 ):
Inherited an X-1 & XE-1 and a few set of lenses and a Nikon F from my father some time back in '82. I've also added an X-700, X-GM & 9000 myself plus several close-up accessories like AB-III and so on. Have used these cameras without any complain. Lately I've been using the X-1 & XE-1 since mountain bike races were introduced here. Normally I would cycle along with the racers and stop midway to photograph the cyclists regardless of the condition of the tracks; be it dusty, wet or muddy and the occasional shower. It has faired better than the more compact X-700 & X-GM on the track even though they weighed more and I do miss the motor drive feature. Even though covered with mud or dust, they functioned flawlessly. Dented the AE Finder; the metering and AUTO has not been working since but still works full manual. I'm trying to get the X-1 Motor.

  5. From Dave Mitchell (Sun Apr 1 04:16:03 2001 ):
Hi! Just came across your Minolta site and you all just reinforce something I have known for years. I have a Minolta X-700 that I purchased in Viet Nam,'65 or '66 w/50mm 1.7 and 135mm lenses. After its initial flight out of a helicopter from 500 ft into a rice paddy (and subsequent cleaning)it has performed remarkably well! I have been trying to find another PowerGrip2 flash bracket attachment with no luck. Any ideas? I was looking at some new models yesterday, and an old photog called over some younger salesmen and remarked". . now this is what a REAL camera feels like!" Except for AF, looks like my old box had all the features of todays cameras thirty years ago. Keep in touch.

  6. From Bert Janssen (Sat Mar 31 19:28:53 2001 ):
I think it would appropriate to include the XD-5. After all, it is basically a XD-7/XD-11/XD, only lacking some less essential features like the film advance indicator. Nevertheless I strongly believe that users of a XD-7/XD-11/XD will always prefer it because it has a more comprehensive viewfinder in terms of information about shutter speeds and aperture. The only thing I miss in my XD-7 is the lack of TTL-flashmetering, but that is why I also own a couple of X-700 bodies.

  7. From Bert Janssen (Sat Mar 31 07:42:51 2001 ):
To Ulrich: like the XM aka XK aka X1, the XD-7 aka XD-11 is/was also known as XD. It just depends on which part of the world the body was meant for! There was also a XD-S, which to my knowledge was only available in Japan; it has an adjustable eyepiece for spectacle-wearers.

  8. From Bert Janssen (Sat Mar 31 07:35:53 2001 ):
Since I bougth my first Minolta (a black XD-7) in 1990 I am hooked on this brand! I have owned several other bodies: SRT-100x, SRT-101, SRT-303, XE-1, XG-2, X-500 and 8000i (silly me; all that hassle with chipcards...); at moment I still have that XD-7, along with two X-700´s, a SRT-303, XE-1 and two XM´s. The XD-7 and the XM´s are my favourites (the XE-1 is the predecessor of the XD-7 and in fact a simplified XM) as they are very easy to handle, ruggedly built and very reliable. They are also silent and smooth, compared to cameras of other manufacturers (don´t want to hurt your feelings, Nikon-buffs; but really, what is so good about a Nikon...); after years of using screw-mount cameras I was looking for a bayonet-mount camera and I had several options: Canon A-1, Nikon FA, Fuji AX-5 or Minolta XD-7. In the end I have made the best choice I could! For those Leica-lovers: if you want a data-back for your R4, but cannot afford the Leica original, get yourself a Minolta Data Back D. It will fit snugly on your R4! And for a fraction of the price! If anyone wants to know: notwithstanding other statements (even from Minolta Co.), the XD-7 does work with all manual focus lenses, be it Auto-Rokkor, MC-Rokkor, MD-Rokkor or just Rokkor; and is capable of shutterspeeds of approx. 60 seconds to 1/2300 of a second in auto-mode! Only the display in the viewfinder will not come on when lenses without MD-coupling lug are used. The right designation for the mount is SR; MD an MC just indicate which meter-coupling capabilities the lens has.

  9. From MYRON S KULIK (Mon Mar 19 07:43:06 2001 ):
I HAVE TO FIND ADDRESS FOR MINOLTA REPAIRS TO ASK WHY CAMERA WILL NOT WORK AFTER REPLACING BATTERY. HAVE TRIED 4 DIFFERENT BATTERIES & STILL NO LUCK. LAST BATTERY WILL WORK ZOOM IN & OUT BUT NO FLASH & NO PICTURE HELP HELP

  12. From Ed Stack (Thu Mar 8 05:01:19 2001 ):
I had an XE-7 which was ruined by salt water and want to replace it with a XD-7/11. Does anyone have one for sale? I found a used XE-7 for $99 but the XE-7 will not take the motor winder. Other than that the XE-7 was an excellent camera and used a Leica titanium shutter.

  13. From Ulrich Böhme (Fri Mar 2 21:29:51 2001 ):
Hello everybody. Has anybody heard of an XD7/XD11 simply inscribed XD? I've got one and I have no clue what this might mean.

  14. From Tony (Sat Feb 24 10:18:22 2001 ):
Does anyone know what kind of mount the XD 11 uses? MC or MD or wut?

  15. From Felix LEE (Fri Feb 23 12:13:00 2001 ):
I bought the XD7 in 80s, it works fine till early 90s. The problem is the flash system doesn't work. The Minolta Co. said they stopped keeing spare parts for this model, would anyone can help me to fix it. Many thanks Felix eofelix@ust.hk

  16. From James Humberg (Wed Feb 14 17:43:42 2001 ):
While Pawn shopping one day in 1996 I found an XD-11 for $65.00 in Mint condition....I find it quite the special piece of equipment. My lens repertoir is centered around my macro training as a microfilmer for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I was trained in 1974 and bought my first Minolta macro 50-QL preset lens at another pawn shop in Pocatello, ID for $25.00. Now my system includes Auto bellows III and a 50mm F:3.5 Macro Minolta Auto-MD and an F:2.5 Tokina Macro 90mm. All my lenses resolve at over 80-LPM wide open, leading me to believe that one need not pay higher prices for a Major MFG. name lens to get the same quality optically than an off named lens manuacturer's lens. Since then I have purchased a Sigma 400 F:5.6, Tokina 80-200 ATX F:2.8, and a jewel of an SMZ Tokina 35-70 F:3.5 All my lenses are exceptional in sharpness and have been scrutenized by the lens repairman at Tokina, and certified that they are above average and in most cases equal to or better that Prime lenses from the top five camera makers lenses of equal magnification ratios. He actually has stated his professional opinion in just how sharp my outfit is!! To make a final point on my lenses abilities...I took a picture of a friend's Postal Stamp from the Marshall Islands. This one that he picked I shot with two colors as background....one pink, and the other background blue. Both pictures were fantastic except for the little piece of lint on the blue background stamp's photo....I not only caught the piece of lint, but two shadows under the lint its self! I was shooting 25ASA Royal Gold....with matched Vivitar 285 flashes. The saturation of the lens was fantastic and I still can't decide which macro lens I was using at that time because they both are equally sharp and contrasty! Now back to my camera....I love the Vertical Focal plane as It allows me to take faster wedding flash photos with less blur during dancing and activities since the sincro is at 125th of a second. I've been a Minolta nut since purchasing my first SRT-100 in 1971, and gave up on Pentax screw mount lenses. I even had a beater lens by Lentar that was wobbley in the helicoid but was needle sharp optically! But I still won't hesitate for a moment to pick up a Rokkor if the price is right and the pawn shop is easy! HA HA!

  17. From Leo Serné (Mon Feb 12 05:51:04 2001 ):
Truly a great site!!! Have two black XD7 and one chrome XD5 all since 1981, once per decade a thorough inspection and operating is like they're just out of the box. Minolta knows the meaning of craftsmanship! I'm looking for a W-Rokkor 20mm and a lenscap for a RF Rokkor 250mm, does anybody have suggestions?

  18. From Smith, A. Craig (Sun Feb 11 13:24:09 2001 ):

I purchased a used XD-7 only to find out that it was in need of repair(minor I believe it's missing the takeup spool to load the film).I'm fortunate to have a XG-7 which I purchased new in the mid 70's that quit working (light meter went bad). To use for parts i'm hoping. Can't wait to get the XD-7 up and running any info would be greatly appreciated.please e-mail me at wiltster74@aol.com

  23. From James Gilmartin (Wed Jan 24 14:19:49 2001 ):
I purchased a great MINOLTA X-1 December 1975 at Ocean Terminal in Hong Kong. Along with it I got a 17mm f4...28mm f2...35mm f1.4... 58mm f1.2...80-200 f2.8 & 500mm f8 cat lens. All Minolta Rokkor X. I love the X-1. I would classify it as in a 95% condition, just normal wear, mostly from traveling. I have used it only on vacation trips. I want to trade up to an early 74-75 XK motor w/AE-S viewfinder Anybody out there have one or know about one please let me know...This is a very good site...thanks...James

  24. From Terry (Mon Jan 15 20:05:21 2001 ):
Problem with XD-11; shutter locks up sometimes when shooting at slow or moderatly slow shutter speed (30-60), stays up for 1-2 minutes. anyone else experience this? and any cheap way to fix? or do you just live with?

  25. From Jon (Sun Jan 14 15:41:01 2001 ):
I have an XD 11 and I have found it way better then the cannon AE-1 which I had previously. However I am wondering if anyone knows of a fisheye lens for the XD 11. If so please send me some info. Also I am looking of an owners manual for the xd 11 if any one has a copy or knows where I can get one please let me know.

  26. From tobias lange (Thu Jan 11 01:44:35 2001 ):
Owning a XM, I can say that it is a beautyful, rare and exotic camera, but it does not fullfill professional demands. The main problem is, that you can´t rely on the metering. Having checked the camera more than one time by a authorized repairman, I still have my doubts in the correct functions of the electric parts of the camera: Sometimes the metering works, sometimes it doesn´t. Sometimes it even works, when it shouldn´t, which wastes the batteries enourmously. I can imagine, that these problems are the reason why professional photographers got not familiar with th xm, and prefered a Nikon or Canon.

  27. From Jasper (Wed Jan 10 00:34:05 2001 ):
**Camelio**: Yes. XD-5 was like an exact replica of the XD-7 where it also offers similar exposure control modes and share similr exterior appearance as the XD-7. The only difference is: It will NOT display the aperture value used nor the shutter speed setting at the lower portion of the viewfinder like the XD-7. When operating in Aperture Priority AE, the aperture selected will be displayed at the bottom of the viewfinder for XD-7; when operating in Shutter Priority AE, both the Aperture and Shutter will be made available at the bottom panel BUT this is NOT SHOWN with the XD-5. I have sold mine long time ago and it is a good idea to send an image of XD-5 to include such info in this site. Camelio, can you take a picture of that and send it to the webmaster ? I do hope this info can be included in this site to make it more complete. Cheers !

  28. From Camelio (Wed Jan 10 00:17:15 2001 ):
A friend of mine trying to sell me his XD-5 whcih claimed the model was the same as the XD-7. I am not too sure what was the difference between the two, can anyone help ?

  29. From Sasteras (Wed Jan 10 00:13:01 2001 ):
Can I assume there was never been a high speed motor drive designed for the XK and the only motorized unit was a XK Motor which is non-removable from the camera body ? I have been offered an unit and I was given the impression after reading content found in this site. p.s. This is a very interesting and informative site. Thanks for the info.

  30. From Bernard Ente (Tue Jan 9 22:22:00 2001 ):
I have a well-established Minolta XK discussion group on egroups.com. If you would like to join just send me your name and email address.

  31. From steve (Tue Jan 9 03:29:27 2001 ): I'm looking for information about the battery pack that attaches to the bottom of XKM body Thanks

  32. From Gerald (Sat Jan 6 10:53:55 2001 ):To Charles Littlemore: you have to buy them. Some commercial outlets are specializing on selling used instruction manauls. You can ask for photocopied which is cheaper or original. Try: Mr John Craig at http://www.craigcamera.com - that site is too messy to browse around, if you cannot find it at the Minolta section, just e-mail him.

  33. From Charles Littlemore (Sat Jan 6 00:53:58 2001 ): Hi I have a Minolta x700 and I need an instruction manual. Can any one direct me to a site where I may find one Thanks

  34. From Daniel Cooper (Tue Jan 2 13:43:06 2001 ):Hi, I bought a XD-7 last year to complement my aging SRT-101b and have run into trouble with it. Firstly, the batteries keep going flat! Every time I go to use it I find there's no power. Is there an 'off' setting that I don't know about? Has anyone else run across this problem before? Secondly, I picked up an autowinder D the other day and can't get that to advance the film either. Is it just a case of attach and switch it on? The light comes on so I assume the batteries are OK. Thanks in advance, Dan

  35. From Rudi Lauwers (Wed Dec 27 19:48:51 2000 ): I have a minolta XM motordrive camera with a few accessoires. I should like to buy the missing parts like missing viewers, heavy duty back to complete the camera but I con not find it. May be some of you have some information. Please point me to the right source or state item, price and condition if you have a unit for sale. Greetings. Rudi Lauwers. P.S. I have also a XD7 camera with winder.

  36. From Howard Scholes (Fri Dec 22 14:58:08 2000 ):I have the XD7 with 50mm 1.7 rokkor lens, added a 75-150mm zoom, a 200mm telephoto & vivitar flash unit. The camera was bought new by myself in 1986 and has performed flawlessly ever since. I've shot models, still lifes, landscapes... you name it. Great camera and still going strong. I recently purchased a minolta XTsi to accompany the XD7. I used both on a model shoot, and although the XTsi is easy to use and full of features, the best frames came from my trusty old XD7... maybe it's because i know all the ins & outs of the XD7 who knows. I'm sure though minolta has another winner in the XTsi (i think it was voted European camera of the year recently), i'm looking forward to exploring this new camera some more... one interesting note, i had the new camera a matter of days and nearly cried when the strap unattached itself to see the camera fall from my waist and bounce down three concrete steps... i hesistated, picked it up and it still works perfectly, the filters stuck on the lens now but the camera is none the worse for wear! Minolta user for life, excellent products, good craftsmanship, highly recommend both the XD7 & the XTsi to anyone!

  37. From Joel Roberts (Thu Dec 21 12:23:59 2000 ): Can someone recommend anybody who specializes in servicing Minolta XK cameras? IF you have any source, can you e-mail me either at work (this address) or at home (joel6451@pacbell.net). Thanks.

  38. From Jason Myers (Thu Dec 14 23:20:37 2000 ): I have a Minolta XK Motor and the battery caps are broken (the tabs broke- I understand this is a typical problem). Anybody have an idea where to source parts for this? Any leads would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  39. From Dan Wilson (Thu Dec 7 07:29:37 2000 ): I am looking for a focusing screen for a XD-11.If anyone has any suggestions on where to find one I'd appreciate it

  40. From cheah chee kin (Tue Nov 28 21:36:31 2000 ): I have a Minolta xd-7, 50mm 1.4md lens & a 135mm 3.5mc lens. What I have found out from my camera shop is that the metal plane shutter design technology has been sold to Leica, as such it is not in production any more. He (the shop owner) also shows me a Leica model in which in interior is exactly the same and even the sound of the shutter is the same. It that true ? Anyway, I bought the md-7 after reading it on Practical Photography. It has develop some fault...when I try using the camera, the shutter button won't response after a few time pressing, then only the contact came back. It is a good camera, although and I have no regrets buying it.

  41. From Jim (Dabs) Dabler (Tue Nov 14 02:41:50 2000 ): I have had a XD11 for years and enjoy the quality of pitchers it takes. I have an adaptor and use a 28-70 Tamron and a 70-200 Tamron lensens. I don't see many in the used camera areas but would like to have a backup as I doon't like the new auro focus camers, I don't think theres any chalange using them Photography is supose to be an Art so the individule should do the work of focusing etc. Just my thoughts, Dabs....

  42. From Jadran Boban (Mon Nov 13 02:41:54 2000 ): I have an XD 7 black with NEW Minolta logo on it. I've heard some rumors that these are modified version of first XD7. Does anybody knows anything about it?

  43. From Marc Baluci (Wed Nov 8 20:38:56 2000 ):
Congratulations for this excellent site. Well done ! XD-7 owner for 21 years and still going strong.

From David Burjoski (Tue Nov 7 02:33:36 2000 ): I am searching for information on the Minolta 24-35 MD Zoom lens. Is it worth locating? Do you have one for sale? Please reply. Thanks!

  44. From Manuel Portillo (Mon Nov 6 20:53:11 2000 ):
    XD7 FOR SALE IN MINT/NEW CNDITION .-I have currently a MINT/New condition Minolta XD-7 FOR SALE @ Yahoo Auctions in the UK.Nov 6. 2000

  45. From Stefan Stahrlinger (Sat Oct 14 08:42:10 2000 ):
Hi, I just had the chance to buy an XD-7 at a very reasonable price. The reason for the price being a few glitches in its computer system. Namely, the camera "forgetting" the ASA-setting at 100 ASA and simply showing the overexposure-arrow. The second and more serious issue is the camera's inability to set the aperture in "S"-mode even with Minolta's own MD-series lenses - the camera simply keeps setting the correct exposure time for the aperture set - the one marked in green. This might however simply be caused by a corroded or loose contact in the mode selector as there's a definite "catch" when switching from "A" to "S". I was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem before and could give me some hints on how to solve this. Also, I'd be very grateful if anyone has a scan of the repair manual for the XD-7/11 they could send me - many thanks in advance.

  46. From Joe McGloin (Mon Oct 9 10:05:56 2000 ): The newest Minolta website is MINMAN. It deals exclusively with manually focusing Minolta cameras and has the most complete list of Minolta cameras and lenses on the web -- BY FAR. It also has on-line discussion groups, a library of books, etc. -- and it is all FREE. Check it out at http://members.aol.com/manualminolta/index.htm

  47. From Dennis Buss (Sat Oct 7 22:47:24 2000 ): I own a Minolta XE-1 that I like very much. I would like to get a second Minolta body. I am torn between getting the XE-5 or moving to the XD-5 or XD-11. Does anyone have any opinion on the relative merits of each? Given the potential problems that age brings, would I be better off getting a new X-700? Thanks in advance for your replies.

  48. From Stephen I. Molnar (Mon Oct 2 23:16:09 2000 ): I have just purchased my first Minolta XK camera. ...Now, this is going back in time about 30 years. I do own a couple of X-700's with lenses galore, from the 16/2.8 to 500/8. My question is the following: Anyone out there with an XK, would you please talk to me? Also, I would like to purchase other finders and screens, flash attachment etc. for the camera and another XK just for parts. ...So,... if you have an XK, that doesn't work, but it is complete, with some extra components, please give me a ring, drop me a line, " Let's make a deal".
