Additional Information on
Manual Focus 1,200mm f/11-f/64 Nikkor-P Super Telephoto Lens

1200mm f/11 Nikkor-P

This used to be the longest regular-type Nikkor super telephoto lens for 35mm photography. Magnification is an amazing 24 times that of the 50mm normal lens. The lens was used to be highly useful in photojournalism, sports, wildlife and other types of photography during those days.

Its lens design was of the apochromatic type which virtually eliminates chromatic aberration to ensure its high image quality. However, many believe this lens was not treated with NIC lens coating process yet. It was designed to be mounted on a camera with a
focusing unit as in the case of the other TWO parts super telephoto lenses. To avoid vignetting, the manual diaphragm, f/11 to f/64, incorporated in the lens should be used instead of the diaphragm in the focusing unit. When using manual diaphragm, make certain that the focusing unit's automatic diaphragm is set at f/4.5. The closest focusing distance is 43m. The lens is complete with a built-in telescopic lens hood.

For this lens, which has a comparatively small aperture of f/11, the use of Focusing Screen Type G4 or H4 is recommended to ensure easy viewing and accurate focusing.
