Elmar was the first interchangeable lens for Leica and
was immensely popular with record shows over 40,000 units had been sold between 1930~1949.
Compact and has short extension. The early Nickel version may not be interchangeable
and throughout its life span, may see different versions in different configurations
as well as purpose had been produced by Leitz. Leitz also had a slower Elmar 1:4.5/3,5cm
made as cheaper alternative to this f/3.5 lens.

Anyway, here is well preserved early version of a Leitz Elmar 3,5/3,5cm lens in chrome
with feet scale, and original lens cap and red lens case. Approx. year produced:
1932. This was auctioned with a hammer price of approx. EURO 388-00 back in 2009.

A typical collapsible Leitz Elmar 3.5/3,5cm lens, when
mounted onto camera, the extension is merely 14mm. The compactness and the slightly
wider picture angle has made the lens a firm favorite for many photographers.

During war time, some of the Leitz lenses were having
marked with different engravings which were for military use. Luftwaffen-Eigentum
= Air Force, Heer or W.H. (Wermacht Heer) = Army, M or M with a Reichsadler (Swastika
with Eagle) = Navy. Here is one version with Luftwaffen-Eigentum. Many of these lenses
had premium over standard commercial version. Authenticating genuine of these can
						be difficult.
