Canon Autofocus EF Lens Resources
Picture format: 24 x 36 mm. The EOS-55, with panorama (13 x 36mm) format enabled (Japanese version only)
Lens Mount: Canon EF Mount (electronic signal transfer system).
Usable Lenses: Canon EF lenses.
Viewfinder/ information: Fixed eye-level pentaprism. Gives 90% picture coverage cortically, and 92% horizontally. and 0.71X magnification (with 50mm lens focused at infinity). Three AF focusing indicators (superimposed and flashes in red when selected by Eye Control or via dial operation), depth-of-field preview mark and a panorama frame for Japanese EOS-55 version only (LED) all within the image area. Outside the image area, the shutter speed, aperture setting, calibration, depth-of-field AE, FE lock are displayed by a 7-segment yellow LCD.
Indicators using a yellow LCD mask are: AE lock, exposure dot scale, exposure compensation, exposure compensation amount, flash, manual exposure level, autobracketing amount, red-eye reduction lamp-ON indicator, flash exposure compensation, flash ready, in-focus indicator (blinks when focus is impossible), incorrect exposure warning during FE lock, Eye Control icon (lights during Eye Control and blinks when Eye Control is impossible), and high-speed sync. Orange LEDs outside the image area illuminate to indicate the panorama image area for the Japanese EOS-55 model only. They also light during depth-of-field preview with the Eye-Controlled depth-of-field mark or AE lock button.and other indications.
Reflex Mirror: Quick-return half-mirror.
Standard Dioptre: Adjusted to -1 (eye relief (mm): unknown)
Focusing Screen: Fixed, New Laser-matte screen with focusing points and depth of field preview mark (Model 50E/Elan IIE only).
Shutter: Vertical-travel, focal plane shutter with all speeds electronically controlled. Front and rear shutter curtains both have dedicated electro-magnetic release control. (Curtain speed: approx. 6.3 ms/24 mm).
Shutter Speeds: 30 sec. - 1/4000 sec., B. X-sync at 1/125 sec. In the manual and shutter speed-priority AE modes, 1/125 sec. and slower shutter speeds can be set in 1/2-stop increments.
AF Control: TTL- CT-SIR (Through-the-Lens Cross-Type Secondary Image Registration) with multiple BASIS (Base-Stored Image Sensor) with the following 4 possible settings: 1. One-Shot AF, 2. AI Servo AF, 3. AI Focus AF and 4. Manual focusing.
AF working range: EV 0-18 (at ISO 100).
Focusing point selection: The focus point can be selected:
1. Automatic: Camera-selected.
2. Manual: User-selected with button and dial.
3. Eye-controlled; User-selected by eye movement (EOS 50E/Elan IIE/EOS-55 Models ONLY)
AF-Assist Beam: Built-in AF-assist bearm emitted automatically at the current focusing point area.

Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB): Provided. Auto-bracketing range of ±2 EV (in 1/2-stop increments) for three consecutive frames in single-frame or continuous sbooting mode for one under, one at the standard metered value, and one over.
Camera-shake warning: Provided with Fell Auto and Programmed Image Control modes. Shutter speed display blinks if the shutter speed is slower than the reciprocal of the lens focal length by more than one-half stop.
ISO Film Speed Range:ISO 6 to 6400 manually (ISO 25 - 5000 can be set automatically with DX code in 1/3-stop increments).
Exposure compensation: Provided. ±2 stops in half stops. Not available in PIC modes.
External LCD: Shutter speed, aperture setting, film speed, multiple exposure count, Red-Eye reduction, self-timer display, film status, exposure display, battery check, and other indications.
NOTE: LCD Panel In time, the camera's LCD (liquid-crystal display) panel indications may become light and difficult to read. If this happens, have it replaced (at cost) by a Canon Service Center. At low temperatures, the display response of the LCD panel may become slower. And at 60 degrees C or higher temperatures. the display may blacken. In either case, the display will return to normal at room temperature.
Film loading: Automatic. After film is loaded and the back is closed, the film advances to frame 1 automatically.
Film advance: Depending on the mode selected, the film advances automatically by either a single-frame or continuously. Align film leader at mark, then close the camera back for auto loading. Automatic film advance with built-in motor.
Film rewind: Automatic at the end of the roll. Mid-roll rewind is possible
Multiple exposures: Maximum 9 multiple exposures (cancellable or re-settable anytime with custom fucntion settings).
Frame Counter: Counts down on external LCD panel (counts up during prewind loading).
Film advance speed: single-frame advance and approx. 2.5 frames per sec. maximum on continuous shooting
Type: Retractable, TTL automatic exposure flash housed in the pentaprism By-pass control system. Auto pop-up head rpvides TTL auto flash control (fires automatically*). Off-the-film metering with 3-zone TTL auto flash system.
Red-Eye reduction lamp (AF-assist beam emitter): provided.

Flash Coverage Angle: Automatically zooms to cover the field of view of 28mm lens
External Flash contacts: X-sync for direct connection on hot shoe.
* Firing conditions: Falsh fires automatically in backlit or lowlight conditions in the Full Auto, Portrait, and Close-up modes, (In a creative zone mode, forced flash firing with flash button.)
Flash exposure aperture: Flash exposure aperture is automatically set by the TTL Program (AIM) in Programmed Control modes. In Av and manual modes the aperture is manually set. In the Tv mode: Automatically set to match the set shutter speed.
Flash Sync speed: In Programmed Image Control modes flash synch speed is automatically set between 1/60 and 1/125 sec. In Av mode it is automatically set between 30" and 1/125 sec. to match the set aperture.In the TV and manual modes synch speed can be manually set to 1/125 sec. or slower.
Others Additional Functions/Features:
Custom Functions: 10* custom functions are provided (11 with EOS 50E models). Eleven custom functions allow you to set the EOS 50/50E to suit your own style of photography. Each function has two or more settings.
1. Film rewind: a) automatic silent rewind b) automatic high-speed rewind.
2. Film leader: a) rewind leader into cartridge b)leave film leader outside cartridge.
3. Film speed: a) set automatically by DX code b) set manually.
4. AE Lock operation and AF activation: a) AF operation with shutter button and AE Lock with AE Lock button b.i) AF operation with AE Look button and AE Look with shutter button b ii ) AF operation with shutter button and depth-of-field preview with AE Lock button,
5. Mirror lock-up and self-timer: a) normal operation b) pressing shutter button raises mirror 2 seconds before exposure.

Hand Grip: Battery Pack BP-50 (sold separately) attachable,
Camera Shake alert: Built-in, retractable TTL autoflash head in the pentaprism. Auto pop-up and serial-controlled.
Recycling Time: Approximately 2 seconds. Lights when ready.
Red-Eye Reduction Function: Red-Eye Reduction Lamp Lights while the shutter button is pressed halfway and focusing and metering are achieved.
Remote Control: 3-pin remote control
External Flash: Hot shoe socket for external flash for E-TTL, A-TTL and TTL Programmed Flash Exposure Control with dedicated speedlites. Manual flash is possible. NOTE: Although it is possible to use third party flash units with the camera but Canon warns when using an external flash unit, an EOS-dedlcaled Speedlite is also recommended. Using a flash unit (equipped with several contacts on the hot shoe toot) dedicated to a different-brand camera or using a high-voltage batterytype flash unit or accessories may result in camera misoperation or malfunction.
Power Source Battery: Battery: One 2CR5 lithium batteries supplies power to body and built-in flash. With Battery Pack BP-50: 4 Size-AA alkaline batteries or 2CR5 lithium battery. With Battery Pack BP-5B (with BP-50 battery compartment cover): 4 Size-D batteries.
Battery Check: Battery level displayed automatically indicating one of four levels on the LCD panel when Command Dial is unlocked. Battery level is indicated in one of four levels. Note: When the symbol blinks on the LCD, a picture can still be taken except it may not be enough to advance/rewind the film.
