Nikon SB-10 Speedlight
As stated earlier, the SB-7E, SB-8E and the SB-10 share many similarities. The SB-7E is the Nikon F2's special hot shoe flash unit of the SB-7E, the SB-8E is almost a SB-10 without the some specific dedicated functions that can work on later bodies such as FE or EM and more like it was there to serves Nikon bodies that has standard ISO type accessory shoe such as the Nikkormat Alternatively, the Nikon SB-10 is designed for the other models, especially the two new compacts, Nikon FE, FM and the later EM in 1979. The standard ISO type hotshoe has an extra-large locking nut for securing the flash to the camera. If you want to use the SB-10 with F2 Nikons, you can use AS-1 Flash Unit Coupler; if you want to use it on the Nikon F3, use the AS-4, AS-7 or the AS-17.
Will it work on any current AF bodies ? Why not - manufacturers are always trying to hide such info, to lure you into buying their latest flash units (Well, to be fair, they usually have better compatibilities and dedicated functions). However, although it offers automatic and manual flash control, some models might not able to enjoy the benefits of the extra features, such as the auto sync speed setting on shutter speeds beyond maximum sync allows, or there is no viewfinder flash ready light and in some cases, LED may blink to warn users out of sync speed range.

Above all else, the Nikon SB-10 is originally engineered to mate with the compact Nikon FE camera, and make it fully automatic in two ways. On the bottom of the hot shoe is an extra contact which ties into the Nikon FE's viewfinder flash readylight. At the same time when the unit is switched on, the FE's shutter synchronizes automatically at 1 /90 sec., and if the shutter speed dial has been set to 1/250 sec. or faster the camera's ready-light starts pulsing as a warning. For Nikon cameras without a built-in ready-light, such as the Nikon FM, you can make use of an accessory called SF-1 Eyepiece Pilot Lamp that can be connected to the three-pronged sync terminal on the bottom of either speedlight.
There are two automatic exposure calculation/operations colour-coded, both on the front mode selector and on the top with an indicator-exposure dial. The dial has clear numbers for easy reference. At the wider aperture of f/4.0, a full 0.6 to 6m (2-19.7 ft.) subject-to-flash distance can be covered, and with a reduced aperture (greater depth-of-field) of f/8.0, a distance of 0.6 to 3m (2-9.8 ft.) should be well covered as well.
The illumination angle of coverage is a approx. 56 degrees (horizontal) by 400 degrees (vertical) to cover a 35mm lens. In manual mode at full output, a fairly strong guide number of 26 (ASA 100 (meters) is achievable.
The flash module can be rotated in the same plane, through an arc of 180 degrees and the ready-light also doubles as a flash button. If you use 28mm more often in flash photography, just attach the SW-2 Wide angle adaptor (snap-in/out type) to extend the illumination angle of coverage to 67 degrees (horizontal) x 48 degrees (vertical), enough to cover 28mm lens photographs. However, the GN in this case, after the diffusion will become a weaker 18 for ASA 100 (meters) film and one is always encouraged to work in a little closer or use the wider AUTO setting of f/4.0 (Or use faster film) to compensate for the loss of light intensity. If you intend to set up multiple flash photography with the SB-10 , there is a sync socket that doubles both for PC cord connection when required, and for multiple speedlight unit connection through one of the sync cords. (May not be a good idea, frankly, the SB-15 or later models with TTL flash capability should be easier and should have a higher rate of success). Anyway, the flash module can also be tilted slightly for bounce light photography.
The snap-in/out battery compartment design of the MS-2 Battery Holder contains four cells. Spare holders can be carried and ready for heavy duty flash assignments.
