  1. From Svjetlana (Fri Jul 7 12:06:25 2000 ):
Hi! I have the opertunity to buy a Nikkormat FT3 for $350. Am I paying a good price? The camera is in excellent condition--looks brand new. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

  2. From Billy S. (Fri Jul 7 10:30:52 2000 ):
Hi all...I have a black Nikkormat FT2 which I love, except that, as some other people have mentioned, the light meter doesn't seem to work right. I suspect this is because of the somewhat complicated procedure for matching the aperture to the meter when installing the lens. I don't believe I've ever done it completely correctly...anyhow, what I want to know is: is this something that I correct myself or do I need to take it into a shop to have a repair person bring everything back into order? It seems like an awfully expensive bit of maintenance if everytime you don't install a lens *exactly* the right way by going through all the steps just so, you have to take it into the shop.I'm starting to grasp the procedure, thanks to this website's help, since I don't have the bleepin' manual for the camera :-), and today I was contemplating finding an AI type camera so I wouldn't have to worry about this stuff. Please write back soon...thanks everyone...

  3. From Jin (Fri Jul 7 03:03:23 2000 ):
Hi, I just got an Nikkormat FTN and am planning to get a flash for it.. since the flash shoe is not in the body, I am planning to use with one of my stroboframe, but which cord do I use to conenct to the Nikkormat body. I am planning to use with Nikon SB16 flash. any information on this appreciated.

  4. From PJennings (Fri Jul 7 00:47:12 2000 ):
***EdPue***: Try to take a look at the 300mm Nikkor Lens Reviews by Michael liu and see if the spec matches and also fits your budget: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/michaeliu/nikkors/6477.htm IF price is your priority, you can go for a third party brands such as Tokina, Sigma or Tamron. But a word of reminder, in most cases, lens determines the "physical" quality output of an image and it justifies to spare a little bit more.

  5. From JoJO (Fri Jul 7 00:40:29 2000 ):
George***: Please be specific, it is hard for anyone to guess what is "FTN3" as you have specified, because that was two diferrent models with varying mechanism (AI and Non-AI) either Nikkormat FTn or Nikkormat FT3.

  6. From Jean-Guy Hélie (Wed Jul 5 13:18:21 2000 ):
I have the chance to own a Nikkormat EL, but I am searching for the booklet that could help me to insure making good photos. I have read with great interest the section concerning my camera, for sure it will help me. If you know anybody that could procure me the operating manual for mine I would appreciate and if it happens to be french, better it will be. I just hope I'm in the right place to make such a request, if not I'm surely close to. Many thanks!!!!!!!!!

I have a Nikkormat FTN3 and I need light meter parts. It has been in the shop for months and they can't seem to find the part they need. please email me with any ideas. Thanks doricgeo@flash.net

  8. From Ed Pue (Tue Jul 4 00:53:44 2000 ):
Hi! I have a great FTn that has recently been overhauled and is working wonderfuylly. I am in need of a long lense, either zoom or fixed in the 300 mm range. Does anyone know of one in the Calgary Alberta Canada area for sale at a reasonable price? An alternative would be to offer my camera for sale. Anyone interested? c/w 1.4 - 50 mm and 2.8 - 24 mm wide angle.?? Thanks. Ed

  9. From Jordan (Sun Jul 2 03:10:17 2000 ):
Any help would be appreciated here. I have owned a Nikkormat FT3 since 1978. I just realized that the meter will stop operating at 1 or 1/2 sec shutter speed, when I close the aperture down below 5.6 (i.e. 3.5, 2.8) It will work above that. This is with a ASA100 film. If I change the ASA or ISO to say ASA 200, it will change the point the meter stops working. I think it will then allow f/3.5 but not at an aperture of f/2.8. I find it hard to believe that I just noticed this after 25 years, but then again I don't take a lot of shots in this range. I thought I read somewhere that this might be normal ? Any thoughts? Thanks! Jordan

  10. From leofoo (Fri Jun 30 12:05:41 2000 ):
*** Sharon Bryant ***: Zoom lenses: There are plenty of commercial outlets selling new or used zoom lenses BUT Nikkormat FT2 is essentially a NON-AI (Not that type of camera that carried with Nikon's proprietary Automatic Maximum Aperture Indexing system) camera and thus it does not provide metering automatically with full aperture, because of this, it may have some compatibility problem with many of the NEW series of zoom lenses which do not provide with a Rabbit Ear on the lens aperture ring anymore. See: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/nikonfmount/aiais.htm A General buying guide for lenses for older NON-AI camera body is: Always look for a lens that carry with an Meter Coupling Shoe (Rabbit Ear) which is used for such semi-automatic indexing with older Nikon cameras such as your Nikkormat FT2 (Or earlier versions). Try to take a look for a commercial outlet in your area first and see if they carry any used items (Because you still can return to the shop IF it does not works probably), an alternate source is to look at those E commerce outlets on the Net such as www.kehcamera.com or try an auction house such as www.Ebay.com. I have a freebie centre here in PIM too. Try to put up an ad and see if you can get any good offers: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/ftz/ Sharon, all these explained earlier can be a little too confusing for you to understand, because FT2 was produced back in the year 1975/6, hence development of SLR has leapfrogged and many newer technologies were being introduced. A lot of those may affect some functionality between older cameras/New lenses or new camera/old lenses combinations; but fortunately most are confined to smaller issues such as metering or exposure control methods etc. and generally it will not affect normal operation of your camera. Just see the two pages I have pointed for you and see if it can help you understand better. A quick guide is: Nikkormat FT3 and Nikon EL2 are the only two Nikkormat SLR models that will take ALL new and older Nikkor lenses, which include all those previous and latest autofocus Nikkor lenses and that is why among all the Nikkormats, these two SLRs always fetch a slightly higher premium than others on the used markets. Cheers.

  11. From Sharon Bryant (Wed Jun 28 19:30:28 2000 ):
I have an FT2 and I am looking for a zoom lens to fit this camera. Does anyone know where I might purchase one? Thanks

  12. From Steve Nichols (Mon Jun 26 11:19:30 2000 ):
I am looking for a reliable repair facility for my Nikkormat ELW. The problem is that the metering needle occasionally drops to the bottom of the scale. I can bring it back but I'm afraid I don't trust the meter anymore. The problem is not the battery. My local repair shop is willing to look at it, but they already told me they can't get parts. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  13. From Nikkorhat (Sun Jun 25 12:40:40 2000 ):
**Brian**: Looks like you are only favoured the mechanical Nikkormat... IF you have a choice, go for the Nikkormat FT3. The little extra justifies for greater compatibility in using wider range of AI-Nikkor lenses. FTN and FT2 are non-AI bodies.

  14. From Bryan (Sun Jun 25 01:03:56 2000 ):
Are the bayonet mount areas on the FTN...FT2...FT3 the same ? There is a piece on my FT3 underneath the bayonet mount (has four holes that secures to the main camera body) that has broken. I would like to get a FTN, FT2 parts body off of eBay and would like to know which to stay away from. ANY help is appretiated !! Thanks

  15. From BOB (Thu Jun 22 23:23:29 2000 ):
Has anyone ever heard of the name Nickorex, I think that is the correct spelling?

  16. From Jeff Cole (Thu Jun 22 04:43:09 2000 ):
Like Mr. Miller who wrote on 29 May, I need a zero diopter eyepiece for a Nikkormat FTn. It's grooved to accommodate the 'cold' flash shoe. Probably interchangeable with other Nikkormat eyepieces...

  17. From Bob Rice (Mon Jun 19 02:58:19 2000 ):
Would anyone have a lead on where I might get an Auto Winder AW-1 EL for an Nikkormat ELW? Appreciate your help. Thanks.

  18. From Paul (Thu Jun 15 08:50:29 2000 ):
Nice to see another EL owner. When using my speedlight, I select the shutter to 1/125, I've never tried it on auto. My camera is in for repairs at the moment so let me know if it works on auto. paul.kruger@eskom.co.za

  19. From Jimbob (Wed Jun 14 09:13:07 2000 ):
Am looking for an old print ad for Nikkormat ELW. Probably around 1976. The ad was more like ablack and white drawing and sepia tinted. I believe the ad showed a man in flying gear with an ELW slung around his neck with an airplane in the background. That's the best my memory serves me. Thanks for any help, Jim

  20. From Paul (Sun Jun 4 23:32:29 2000 ):
My NIKOMAT EL has a problem with the shutter speed selection when on AUTO, it selects the previous shots speed. When the camera is pointed to a dark spot and triggered, the slow shutter speed wil again be selected when pointed to a bright spot. On manual all seems to be OK. Has anybody with the same trouble any advice. Thanks.

  21. From Mike Smith (Sun Jun 4 04:16:54 2000 ):
Could someone send a picture and some information to me on the Nikkormat FT 3113020? Mike Smith

  22. From Mike Smith (Sun Jun 4 04:14:07 2000 ):
Can someone send me a picture (a big one) of a Nikkormat FT? I need to match one up with the one that I have. Can you also send me some specifications with it? Thank you. Mike Smith

  23. From PJennings (Tue May 30 11:54:31 2000 ):
#William#: The little device that hooked onto the eyepiece is, if I am not mistaken, a viewfinder pilot lamp where it works similarily with modern SLR's viewfinder flash readylight. See: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/flash/sb1tosb21/index4.htm#SF-1 If that is the device, you can decide whether to take it out and replace the eyepiece. Well, you can still affixed it later after changing it.

  24. From William K. Miller (Mon May 29 05:42:45 2000 ):
I have owned a Nikkormat FT 3923185 since it was new. Because it is not equipped with a hot shoe, the flash is supported by a viewfinder bracket which is attached with a screw in eye piece with internal threads. Does anyone know how I might locate an eye piece. My local camera dealers are of no help.

  25. From Owen Coors (Fri May 26 13:52:14 2000 ):
I just got an FTn today that is in like-new condition, except when I put a new Wein Cell in it, I found that the meter stays on even when the wind lever is in the off position. Can someone tell me why this is and if I can get this repaired locally through a Nikon dealer.

  30. From Jeffrey Siegle (Wed Apr 26 09:12:44 2000 ):
I have a Nikkormat FTn sn3913422. All seems to function properly (takes good pictures)except that the mirror "bounces" on return to the down position. Is this normal and if not can it be fixed? Thanks in advance! JJ

  31. From PJennings (Thu Apr 20 15:18:29 2000 ):
#Marilyn#: The Nikkormat FT's Fim Speed setting needs to be match with the maximum aperture of the lens in use. The Flm Speed setting is at the base of the lens mount. Set the lens to f5.6, the meter must then be set for the full lens aperture. Turn the diaphragm ring to the smallest and then to the largest. Hope it helps.

  32. From Michael G (Thu Apr 20 03:37:00 2000 ):
I have a Nikkormat Ftn. The meter sometimes behaves erratically. Also, there are specks inside the viewfinder which I would like to remove. Any ideas. I am in UK.

  33. From D. Pile (Mon Apr 17 13:09:50 2000 ):
I own a FT2, black body, that suffered moisture intrusion in a boating mishap which has resulted in a frozen shutter mechanism. I continuously mactivated the shutter until I felt that all of the moisture was gone. Is there any way to have this repaired? I live in Sonoma couinty, CA, just north of San Francisco.

I have just inherited a Nikkormat FT and have not been able to discover the trick to changing the ASA setting. There is a silver metal indicator that looks like it should slide but will not move. Can you offer any help? Also, do you know if there is a way to get a copy of the users guide? Thanks for your help.

  40. From JWoods (Mon Mar 6 15:15:54 2000 ):
@Pam@: The EL is very similar in operation with the EL-W - Which I think it is essentially an upgrade of the original EL with provision to use with the Power Winder. You should use this section for cross reference when use your EL with a flash: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/elseries/elw/htmls/index7.htm This site has another section just concentrate on Nikon flash, which may come in handy for you as well: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/flash/index.htm

  41. From Developer/Maintainer (Mon Mar 6 15:04:41 2000 ):
For #Peter Pynchon#: The FTn still uses mercury cell. This has been stated clearly in "major features" section of the Index page of Nikkormat FTn. Further, I have compiled a short reference page for proper battery cells used for some of the Nikon SLR camera bodies at: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/htmls/batteries.htm BUT that does not covers substitutes.

  42. From JWoods (Mon Mar 6 14:55:18 2000 ):
@Brian Roby@: Unfortunately, NON of the mechanical Nikkormat camera bodies (Starts with FT XX) has provision for automatic film advance device. The first Nikkormat model that offered such capability was the electronic Nikkormat EL-W (Earlier EL also cannot use with the winder introduced for the EL-W and EL2, mainly because there is no motor coupling underneath of the camera body at all). The winder, AW-1 is a 2 fps (Frames per second) auto winder, further info can be found at this page: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/elseries/el2/mapwinder.htm

  43. From BRIAN ROBY (Sun Mar 5 08:05:29 2000 ):

I have a Nikkormat EL and want to use it with my Vivitar flash unit. In using electronic flash, do I put the EL at 1/125 sec or in Auto, with the f/stop set at given distance per flash unit? Thanks, it's been a while.

  48. From Erik Christiansen (Fri Mar 3 01:08:32 2000 ):
