I have a black Nikkormat FT (#3152425). I have had it for years and I'm hoping you can help me with the date of manufacture. Also, I'm curious to know what the camera originally sold for and what it might be worth today. Thank you.

  6. From Strang Haldane (Thu Oct 22 03:06:48 1998 ):
If you have an answer to my question about Nikkor 50mm lenses, why not contact me at s.haldane@net.ntl.com

  7. From Strang Haldane (Wed Oct 21 07:41:29 1998 ):
It's difficult to beat a standard 50mm lens, in my opinion. But..just which of the Nikkors is the very best? An f1.2? An f1.4? While I'm on the subject, just why exactly is it that only 50mm lenses offer such wide apertures?

  8. From deano (Sat Oct 3 07:39:15 1998 ):
I just purchased my first Nikkormat EL camera....I was always a Canon fan, but have always wanted to get one. My question is, how durable is this camera. I had it on my car seat and I rounded a corner and it went flying off onto the floor (rubber mat). Is this camera durable enough to withstand a hard knock once in a while? It didn't seem to do anthing to it (marks) because of the rubber floor mat, but I was a bit concerned. This camera is the heaviest I have ever owned, but is a joy to shoot with. If someone could answer my concerns about the durability of this camera I would appreciate it. Thanks.

  9. From J Jan (Thu Oct 1 06:45:28 1998 ):

I just purchased a 1967 Nikkormat FTn and am wondering what battery I can use; also there is an angular piece of metal cutting diagonally across the film counter? Finally, is there any good outlet for used parts for this camera?

I have a line copy camera with F70 seriesand Please send catalog

  14. From Greg (Wed Sep 16 10:02:48 1998 ):
I purchased a mint black Nikomat FTn today and I'm wondering when it was made; the serial number is FT 3816062. I also would like to know what kind of battery I should be using to run the meter; I realize the original mercury based batteries are not available. I've been a fan of Nikons since I purchased my first camera, a Nikon FTn photomic (Apollo model), which unfortunately was stolen. I also own a F3T and a FG. Thanks for any info you can pass on to me.

  15. From Rick (Fri Sep 11 11:28:27 1998 ):

  16. From Carlos Rivera (Thu Sep 10 12:21:37 1998 ):
I own a like new Nikomat ELW that works perfectly, along with two Nikon FE's. All are absolutely great machines. This is THE BEST NIKON SITE I have found in the net. Thanks for all the information and all the effort placed into it.

  18. From Thomas (Mon Aug 31 22:04:08 1998 ):
I have a line copy camera with Nikkor written on the lens cover. Around the face the following is engraved- no610952 Nippon Kogaky Japan Nikkor F=610 1:9. I also have a F=480. I am looking for calibration sheets for the 610 (LBCCBC). If anyone can lead me to a better web sight I'd appreciate it.

  19. From Gerry Milnes (Sun Aug 16 04:32:59 1998 ):
I just purchased an FT2 in new condition. I think I will like it because, in operation, it is much like my manual Hasselblad. I'd like to find a zoom lense about 28-70. Is/was such a critter made for this camera that is of good quality?

  20. From Bryan (Thu Aug 13 21:43:35 1998 ):
I have a Black Nikkormat FT3 in working order - I'm interested in getting it restored. Can someone give me a rough idea as to what it would cost me. Also looking for the manual for it. Any help is appretiated !! Bryan - roberta@nt.net

  21. From Robert Peters (Wed Aug 12 09:42:32 1998 ):
I think one of the most important differences in the FT2 is the use of a MS-76 battery. The older Nikkormats used the PX 625 mercury battery for which there is no really good replacement.

  22. From Daniel Conners (Thu Aug 6 11:31:39 1998 ):
I have been having a problem with my FTn meter. I am told this easy to fix. Please advise.

  23. From leofoo (Sat Jul 25 14:37:23 1998 ):
The operation procedures for the Nikkormat FT2 is the same with the Nikkormat FTn. The only difference is : The FT2 has a hotshoe designed for using the flash on the top of the pentaprism (BUT the older MX at the side is still retained. You can use either one (The PC terminal needs a cable, while the hot shoe at the top can use with any ISO type shoe-mount flash ) ALL current flash, including the any latest AF flash can be used on the FT2 in auto or manual flash modes - except you can use all the AF functions). Another tiny difference is the ASA (The tiny clip at the edge of the focusing lever on the lens mount, it is a safety feature design to prevent accidental shifting of the ASA film speed at the bottom of the lens mount, pull it with your finger nail and you can adjust the film speed then). I hope this will help. The FTN site is very comprehensive and detail: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikkormat/fseries/ftn/index.htm Anyway, Hiura & I will port some other info into this site on the FT2 later.

  24. From Andy Entrekin (Sat Jul 25 06:32:58 1998 ):
I just got an FT2 system from my father and I need to find a manual. I saw another post asking the same question, and I have emailed its poster, but if anyone out there can help me, I'd be grateful. The more people I ask, the more likely I am to get the right answer, right? Thanks for your help.

  25. From Mike Doiron (Fri Jul 24 20:54:04 1998 ):
I have 'inherited' a Nikkormat camera, with little knowledge of manual camera usage... Can anyone tell me anything from the number on the body of the camera (FT 3165257) ie: does this number have any intelligence built into it ? Also, is there any way to order an original manual ? thx, mike

  26. From Rob (Mon Jul 20 02:15:52 1998 ):
This is a fantastic site. I have been using an FT3 for several years, it was a gift from my dad who had one when they were new. I have taken several "photo-trips" around the west and pacific north west (north america) and have always returned with a great collection of photos. Recently i have taken on his collection of Nikkormats and Nikomats, and have had a lot of fun playing with the EL. Thanks for the great site!

  27. From Jacob R (Sun Jul 19 21:57:17 1998 ):
Thi site is comprehensive and educational enough. I didn't know the El cameras have a mirror lock up feature. Great piece of info site for Nikon fans like us. Thank you.

  28. From Marschel (Mon Jul 6 07:45:57 1998 ):
I have a Nikkormat Ftn, which I have had since 1972, and have used continuously off and on since then. It has never broken or slipped in anyway. I would like to find a micro lens for it, but am confused about terminology. I have the pin or prong type lens mount, but when I look at ads I don't know what I am looking for ... AIS, AI, non-AIS. Does anyone know what type of lens I am looking for? Thanks. Marschel

  29. From Tom (Mon Jul 6 00:54:04 1998 ):

  31. From Jim Thomas (Fri Jul 3 11:21:13 1998 ):
I've been using two Nikkormat FTn cameras, both pretty beat up but working, both found at yard sale/flea markets for under $20! I've managed to put together a nice little set of near mint condition Nikkor F lenses that I use with them. But SOMEDAY--- I will find a Nikkormat FTn or FT2 in excellent condition that I can afford. Until then, my two beat up FTn's will have to do! They sure are great cameras!

  32. From Kyffin Lewis (Fri Jul 3 09:08:50 1998 ):
I have the original nikkormat ft and have lost the manual. I have not used it for about 2yrs and have just got it serviced to start using it again but I have a problem. I cannot remember how to align the asa setting with the lens speed to get the right match for asa. On the FT model you match the asa speed with the lens speed on the side of the lens/body. Can someone help. Also if you use a 2x lens converter what lens speed / aperture should I align with the asa ring. (example 50mm 1:2 with 2x converter using asa 100 film) Please help

  33. From shinsaku (Wed Jul 1 14:57:24 1998 ):
Nikkormat EL series need one 4SR44 silver oxide battery (6V). It is set in the bottom of the mirror box, so you can change it after mirror-lock-up.

  34. From Steve Laue (Tue Jun 30 18:27:01 1998 ):
This is a great site. I collect Nikkormats and have won many awards using these beautiful cameras. If anyone has mint condition black bodies for sale please email me on s200609@ozemail.com.au. I live in Sydney Australia. Keep the Nikkormats alive!

  35. From Jeff Cummings (Mon Jun 22 11:22:59 1998 ):
What type of battery does the EL use and where does one purchase one, or two, or three?

  36. From Glenn (Sat Jun 20 16:31:52 1998 ):
Is there a list of Nikon filters and their uses? I have a filter but do not know its function: contrast? etc. Thanks, Glenn

  37. From Robert Palumbo (Sat Jun 13 13:18:23 1998 ):
    Great site.

  38. From M.J. Caputo (Fri Jun 12 08:26:27 1998 ):
Does anyone know how I can obtain an FT2 instruction manual?

  39. From Andrew Wedlake (Mon Jun 8 13:15:45 1998 ):
Two years ago my Nikkormat Ftn that my Grandfather gave my dad and in turn gave to me was stolen. Just last week I have finally found a mint condition Nikkormat Ftn. It's great to know that there are other people that appreciate the mechanical art of the early Nikon cameras, and I feel fortunate to have inherited another one.

  40. From leofoo (Tue Jun 2 22:56:09 1998 ):
I always thought the Nikkormat EL2 is one of the best buy among all the Nikon mid range SLRs. It packs all the best of goodies you would expect in a MF body: AE, mirror lock up lever, automatic indexing, MX terminals etc. Except it is hard to come across a mint condition body in the used market. Hiura, I enjoy very much working with you on the construction of this site. Thanks!

  41. From Shinsaku (Tue Jun 2 13:23:20 1998 ):
My first camera is a Nikomat (Japanese version of the Nikkormat) FTn from my father. My father bought it before I was born, and it is still working very well now. It makes me a Nikon freak and now I am magaging the Nikomat-ML - a on-line Nikon fan club in Japan. Enjoy.
