Generally, Black
bodied LEICA M3 bodies were rarer in volume produced and easily an original black
paint M3 body could fetch a higher premium than comparing M3 chrome bodies. The highest
production of M3 Black Paint was between 1962/3 where an approx. 2000+ units had
been rolled out from Leitz plant. However, the ratio between Chrome / Black was at
5:1. Take an example o this LEICASHOP® auctioned 1962 M3 black paint model with
less than perfect state but still. it has auction price of approx. EURO 6,500-00*. Leica M3 Black was believed to start producing after 1958 - almost
at the period many of the Leica M3 single stroke units were being produced. As for
double stroke M3 black paint, one such rare example which is showcased on the Page
1 earlier.
M3 black paint Single Stroke, approx. Year: 1962
Very rare, original black paint M3 body from official batch, nice patina (some repaint),
technically perfect, clean finder and shutter, matching black paint Summicron 2/50mm,
clean optics, cap.
* NOTE;- Indicative price(s) herein is/are based original
prices published on previous auction literature/references. Prices may vary according
to gradual yearly premium, supply/demand equations, and/or other renewed valuation
methods.

Another Leica M3
black in better condition, it carries with an auction BUY-NO price of approx. EURO
6,800-00. I can't imagine what will be the calling price for a mint set.
M3 black paint Single Stroke, approx. Year: 1962
Rare, fully original black paint M3 body from
official batch.
