F2AS (DP-12 Photomic Finder)

New Upload: The Nikon F2 website - Modern Classic SLR series Please refer to the featured section at the Interchangeable finders section

The DP-12 finder is the most advanced but also the most expensive TTL metering finder among all the Nikon F2 finders. It packs all operational features of the F2 basic body with the electronic sophistication of the DP-12 Photomic Finder to achieve a high level of reliable performance. You can say it is an AI version of F2SB (With DP-3 finder). It provides an extended light metering sensitivity of EV-2 to EV17, which enables very-low light metering. In actual practical term means a full 8 sec. exposure at f/1.4 to a l /2000 sec. exposure at f/8 with an f/1.4 lens and ASA 100 film. It can meter with non-AI lenses but only restricted to the stop down exposure measurement method.

It is also designed to use with some accessory such as DS-12 EE Aperture Control Attachment, this will transform the F2AS into a camera with shutter speed priority exposure control. It uses a pair of more sensitive silicon photo diode sensor to meter, with Nikon's pioneered center-weighted metering pattern to assure more than accurate, reliable exposure system. All the information you need is displayed clearly just below the picture area, an advanced, 5-point LED readout system that indicates correct, over- or underexposure, selected shutter speed and, (in the case of Al lenses) aperture setting, too.

The viewfinder display are of similar pattern with the current FM2(n) (To be more exact, the FM/FM2(n) duplicates F2AS's LED readout). Other professional features include an external correct exposure indicator/built-in illuminator for easy information readout during low light level shooting, stop-down metering, auto indexing, a flash ready light and an eyepiece shutter to prevent stray light entering that might affect metering accuracy.

You can just add a EE aperture control attachment DS-12, a motor drive, bulk film back, or a intervalometer, and you can go unmanned photography. The DP-12, widely acclaimed as F2's best metering prism and the F2AS was generally referred as a modern classic by many camera collectors. It is a fine representation of the best of mechanical engineering available during the seventies.

A great view with the EE Aperture Control Unit DS-12 on the F2.
