Hi,
I'm an Alpa and Contarex fan and recently I purchased a Contax S2 with the firm intention to use it intensively. Does someone have an idea how to decript Contax serial numbers? Are they comprehensive (all cameras share a unique serial numbering system) or referred to a single camera serie? Does someone (eventually fluent in Japanese) have information on the number of produced cameras of the following Contax series:
167, RTS III, S2, S2b, ST, RX, AX, Aria, N1, NX?
I'm grateful to anyone providing a part of the requested information. Thanks in advance

Hi Jerome!
The lens mount of the RTS is known as the "Y/C-mount" (i.e. Yashica-Contax mount because between 1974 and 2004 Yashica and Contax SLR bodies were both built by Kyocera and shared the same lenses - Yashica and Carl Zeiss). The M42 mount is only interesting for lenses for Contax bodies that were built in Germany and before 1970!
Using the still superb Carl Zeiss lenses on a digital SLR you should consider that they work only in manual modus (M) - you have to set shutter time and aperture. I've tested a Planar 1,4/50 on an EOS 5D, it resulted to be much sharper than the EF lens, but the camera didn't meter exactly: images with aperture wide opened became much lighter than those with aperture stopped down.
Best wishes,
Oliver

A question about the RTS lens mount. Do this camera accept lenses for what is know as the "C/Y mount" as opposed to M42 for the Contax range finder? If not, what do they call the mount for lenses fitting this camera. Asking because I want to mount my zeis 50mm 1.4 onto my Digital and want to get the right adapter.
Thanks

Hello: I am new here having just acquired a Contax RTS. It is in very good condition but the mirror lift is a bit slow when
the shutter is released. It moves downward swiftly after the shutter fires. I have installed a new battery. Can anyone
suggest what I might do to solve this problem. Thank you,
Dave

This site is simply lovely. Truly inspiring with all the photos shown. Clearly a good source to view others' work to determine where you stand in our photographic journal. They are not particularly very top end like those pros who shots for NGeo or Time photo of the year material but they are day to day records and very appealing as most of us are serious amateur photographers. Thanks for the great presentation. They are very very good pictures. Seemingly the photos used on the pro series such as the Nikon F4, F5 and Cann EOS-1n / EOS-1 RS are of careful selection which are obvious as these bodies are meant for the pros. Congratulation !

hello,

Could anyone please help me on this issue:

On my Contax RTSII I can't put the compensation ring to X1. I moved it to X1 but the ring stays up and not snapping into a notch as it should... But if I move it to 1/4 it snaps right in... (it's is the only position it snaps in)

is there any special procedure to make it right. (I don't have he user manual anymore)

I guess you are referring to 1986 and not 1936. May be contax.com or simply here. if it relates to Zeiss T* lenses, you can use: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/messageboard/lenses/index.php

Hi and thanks for the wonderfully descriptive web site re: Contax flash units. I have a 540 but have been unable to locate a battery for it. Are you aware of any source for the battery? If so I would be very grateful if you could let me know where I might find one? I had lost all hope of locating the batter and in the mean time gave the battery carrier to a grandson so may need one of those too (assuming I can't retrieve it).
