Classic rangefinder camera system Series :
Various Rangefinder camera models / RF Lenses - Message Board/Guestbook

This is a new section specifically created for rangefinder system users. I guess users of RF bodies/lenses users have a distinctive taste in their own. Most of all, they are a mix of collectors, photographers, historian etc. who may be having keen interest in the photographic equipment produced during the old days. But I guess most of allm, they are the elite group who are more to appreciative the excellence of mechanical / optical engineering presenting in the rangefinder system made during the older days. As it is rather hard to satisfy everyone intention when it relates to a website as each may have their own preferences on brands or types. Over the years, I have constructed quite a number of sites featuring a series of selective camera models and/or optics but they were all related to Single lens reflex (SLR) systems but not really focused on the rangefinder system yet. So,m technically, the RF-Nikon/Nikkor section is my first attempt. When I first started the site, I simply felt it is so unfair just to concentrate on the Nikon/Nikkor alone as there are so many good photographic systems with other major labels. So, other than my initail effort on the Nikon/Nikor, I am also taking the chance begin compiling some of the other information on other respectful labels as supplementary information for surfers. As there are already many excellent, established resources on the Network on the ame topic , probablyt I don't have to pursue one by one in details but simply confine my own effort within the early series of Nippon Kogaku and Nikkor only but I would also take the opportunity to introduce other equally good photograophic resources from comparing brands. This Message Board was created just for that purpose to patch things that I feel that might be missing in my own PIM site - as well as to provide a gateway for those that were not being featured yet. You may use it for whatever you think / deem suitable - regardless it is questions & answers (Q&A) or just make good use of it to share experience among one another on the rangefinder system. Lastly, as some of the remarks presented herein may be entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal of your equipment. Naturally, you are always encouraged to make good use of this convenience of the MB here to present your own thoughts / views as well. Enjoy.

This site is specifically created for any rangefinder camera models and/or optical group of the system, its creator. Please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you. Since this is a non-profitable resource site - The developer of this site reserves the rights to censor or delete any inappropriate, unrelated, misleading or excessively hostile messages posted herein. If your intention is to dispose your Rangefinder camera(s), lenses or its accompanying accessories or looking for a used model or any of its system components, please use a separate section with a higher volume of traffic Free Trade Zone site instead. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's Guestbook at another new window by clicking on the Guestbook Link.

The respective Message Boards are some of the HARDEST hit section of the PIM site, if at any one time, the traffic is high - the table/content may take a while to load the data, just be patience. If it stalls, just click on the 'Reload' or 'Refresh' button on your browser menu once to re-attempt. Thank you.

What is that term "pimples" on the Contax Ia ? I have found one related thing at cameraquest but it mentioned without any ilustrations and I see no difference from other Contax I except the shutter ring is different.

Site Progress Update 29.09.2008:- Here are some new addition of information to another form of collectibles on camera:-
Leica Dummy Display Units. . Which is alternate to modern cutaway model introduced during the '80.

You may also check some of these Leica Cutaway Display Units.

On the other hand, Japanese camera manufacturers were more fond of creating transparent camera display as shown here Canon T90 Transparent camera Display Units. . These were the "new" trend that was first used during the '80 and is still practicing now with some of the Autofocus Units. Just added some references for your casual browsing.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to have a digital back for my OM's, and I was really hopeful back when Digital Film was coming any day now (remember Digital Film? I actually know someone who was involved in that early on... the performance target moved so fast that they couldn't draw a bead on it, while trying to figure out how a mechanical camera was going to send a "the shutter is opening" signal to power up a sensor trapped inside the camera...)

But I have also spent my life in product development, and I know that engineers, toolmakers and all those other people don't work for free and they don't finish complicated projects instantly. A digital back for a film camera is a more complex and difficult problem than a complete digital camera that has all of the necessary electronics in it to make the system work, and the market is a fraction of a percent of the market for a digital camera. So, while I think it would be a really cool thing to have, would I pay over $1000 to put a digital back on my OM1? No, probably not. (and it wouldn't work on an OM2, with its Off-the-Film metering system).

On a related note, the last Big New Thing was autofocus. Vivitar, Tamron and Sigma all made Self-Contained Autofocus zoom lenses in the late 1980s, and I bought both of the Vivitar zooms for my OMs. They're very good... but I got the 75-200, brand new, for $36. How much profit do you figure either Vivitar or the store made on that? From a business point of view, a patchwork product to add semi-modern technology to a discontinued camera is very much the same equation, except that the costs and time required are astronomically higher, and you can't just make one for each basic lens mount and cover the market.

But if someone DOES come out with a digital solution for a mechanical SLR or rangefinder for less than the cost of an equivalent new DSLR, I'll certainly give it a close look.

Can I join in and offer my thought here too ? Both opinion are true and have some room for further debates. I do know that remark by leo was 5 years ago but It is difficult - as Rick said, the digital imaging has too big of a margin (profit) during the early days (basis: most Japanese manufacturers had a turn around financially with the new emerging medium for a cycle of about 5 years). And everyone is slowly facing the problem again due to intense competitions among them now - prices are pulling down, technical spec are higher which indirectly involves higher development cost and trimming down the margin. I guess one of the area that had really put off any idea of a digital film back was the huge P&S market (it is the real profit centers for all since the mid '80 onwards, NOT the SLRs), today, P&S digital with easily 10 megapixels from a good label can be available at USD300-400 bucks now, this potentially had killed off any external attempt (considered as threats to them) with such an idea designed for analogue bodies. But from another angle, if ever Kodak/Fuji had started this years ago, it could also be possible because they can proportionally lowering their initial investment by steady income if selling those possibilities proved viable and well received by consumers.

Perhaps, if one is/was smart, the Company would select bodies that shares the same film back as system accessories e/g. Nikon FM series, may be FE series need a little slight touch here and there to fit the back, as for the Canon A series, T series each is almost having the same configurations at the film back. The last possibility is, of course work along with the original label and sell the film back as optional acccessories (.. just add a sticker or print a label on them, they did got away with the FM10, Canon T 50 right ?). haha ..good discussion topic.
