I have a problem! Until 2 months ago I only had a Nikon F2 and a box full of Nikkor lenses. But I've bought a Nikon FM10. My problem is that the lenses I had for Nikon F2 are not the AI type! How can I convert my older lenses to the AI type? With who should I speak? How much I will pay? Is it still possible? I will aprecciate your answer! Thank you very much for your atention! 5. From Roger ROuch (Mon Jan 11 01:41:00 1999 ):
FM Mechanical Problems - About every 3 rolls of film or so, my shutter leaves stick in the shut position. A few months ago I took the camera to a repair shop. They basically cleaned it and charged $75 to no avail. I can release the shutters by gently lifting up on them with a finger or cotton swab, but understand this is a big no-no. If i drop another $75 for repairs I've almost bought another camera. Any help on this one?

From Rakesh Kirtikar (Sun Jan 10 04:39:18 1999 ): I have an FM2. It has a minor hairline scratch on the focussing screen (K2). It's irritating and I wish to replace it. Is B2 a good choice for general photography? How much will it cost me? I live in Mumbai (India).

  8. From Rhys Thomas (Mon Jan 4 22:47:55 1999 ):
I'm sure that my FM2n developed an over-active exposure meter. I mean that the meter changes too quickly from + to - around the correct exposure, which makes correct exposure tiresome. Not inaccurate ,but difficult. Did anyone else experience this problem?

Hi Roger--I have an FM which I purchased in the 1970's. Recently the shutter leaves have begun to stick, just like yours. I have taken it to a local repair shop and they fixed it, but now it is doing the same thing. It will work fine for a while, then wham! stuck. Have you learned anything about what's happening or what to do? I hesitate to take it back to the repair shop. How does one go about sending it directly to Nikon? Laura

  27. From Leonard (Thu Feb 11 00:06:57 1999 ):
Well, well.. here is an URL that can be of good supplement for the AI lens issue. Hope it helps a little. http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/nikonfmount/aiais.htm

  28. From FM2user (Wed Feb 10 23:56:06 1999 ):
No. FM2 (or for that matter FM2n) came with a Fixed (non-retractable) meter coupling lever and thus cannot used with any Non AI lens type (But it accepts AI-modified Nikkor, so older Non-AI lenses should converted into an AI lens so as to fit on the FM2 (or later models)). However, the earlier Nikon FM can take in both AI, non-AI lenses and even todays' AF lenses. Holes in the "Rabbit Ears" is just an indication and not necessary applies that it is an AI or non AI lens. I have seen some clever cookie 'engineered' an Auto-P Nikkor even with an AI-S type Aperture Ring (IF the orange minimum aperture value is a guide for an AI-S but that doesn't mean the 'updated' lens is an AI-S !)

  29. From Brian Hoort (Wed Feb 10 22:02:31 1999 ):
I own an FM2. I have just read the article explaining lens types. Am I to understand that my FM2 can take any lens from NAI up? I looked at my (3) lenses, two had NAI ears & one had AI ears. If I use a NAI lens, will I still be able to use the internal meter? Thank you.

  42. From Steven (Fri Feb 12 16:24:24 1999 ):
I'm buying a used FM with a MD-12 and 50mm for a good price. The guy said it was a 50mm 1.8, but now it turns out to be a 2.0. The lens was bought with the FM in the late seventies. It should be a AI, right ? Should I lower the price I'm going to pay, since it's a little slower ?

  43. From GEORGE (Thu Feb 11 22:51:29 1999 ):
Now Someone who know the price all of fm series Please send to me Please,Please,Please Thank you

  44. From Emmanuel Renaud (Thu Feb 11 17:40:47 1999 ):
Message for Roy who needs opinion on Nikon FM2 -> my best camera ever ! The only drawback is that it doesn't accept non-ai lenses. It's perfect to take real pictures with nothing useless (like autofocus or flash). It's cheaper than a Leica M6 and is as good at mid-range aperture on almost every Nikon'lens. Visit my website, most of the last pictures were taken with one of my FM2 : http://perso.wanadoo.fr/jean.jean

  45. From neil cedar (Mon Mar 29 13:20:54 1999 ):

  46. From Harry Moore (Wed Mar 17 22:35:19 1999 ):

  47. From Mick (Tue Mar 16 04:08:47 1999 ):
After reading the info posted on this web site, I have some concerns about my intended purchase of Nikon E 75-150mm zoom lens for my Nikon FM camera. What is meant by 'stopped down metering'? Will I no longer be able to use the light meter with this lens? Please help

  48. From Ted Rosendorf (Tue Mar 16 01:14:15 1999 ):
I just bought a used FM2 and I need a manual. Does anyone know if I can get a manual in digital format, or maybe by fax? Thanks: ted

  49. From Ismail Al Malique (Mon Mar 15 09:19:35 1999 ):

  50. From Thomas John (Mon Mar 8 00:23:16 1999 ):
Hi all. A friend of mine is looking for a somewhat inexpensive but high quality camera that he can take for a study trip to Trinidad. I said him to consider a Nikon body but he is on a tight budget. The possible alternatives are a Nikon FM, probably an FE, or a F2. I would like to hear any comments about the ruggedness of these three cameras, especially in the more tropical climate. Is the FE as rugged as the FM? I know that the earlier Nikkormat with electonic shutters could be troublesome, so what about the FE. Given that both models sell for the same price, should I turn him into buying a F2 instead of the FM? I have a Nikon F and a Nikkormat FTn myself but these are getting rare where I live, and so the natural successors would be either the FE/FM or the F2. Looking forward to comments. Thomas
