I will probably buy a new FM2n but i would like to know more about it. If anybody can answer - Thanks for help. 1. What are the differences: FM2n chrom or black, whay does the price is different. 2. Are there any differences between new FM2n with USA warranty or from grey market? Are both made in Japan? 3. Whay doesn't Nikon advertise FM2n as a pro-camera, F3 is only like a manual-pro? 4. Does anybody have a any troubles with this camera? what kind? 5. Does anybody have any expirience with Tamron 28-105/2.8, what is quality of this lens comparing to nikon lenses? Thank You.

  3. From Marshall W. Wynne (Fri Dec 31 11:48:21 1999 ):
Hello out there, fellow Nikon owners. My question is as follows: I received a used Nikon FM (black painted body, white letters) with serial number FM 2567734, as a Christmas gift from my wife. I am trying to find out what year it was made in. Does anyone know how I can do this? Is there a Nikon number to call or email to find out? A book I can reference to?

  4. From Andrew Adler (Fri Dec 31 03:57:40 1999 ):
Rick -- You may be thinking of the Cosina-made FE-10, which is similar to the FM-10 with the addition of aperture-priority capability.

  8. From Chris Lockyer-Bratton (Thu Feb 3 00:53:48 2000 ):
Does anyone out there know a manufacturers part number (not the Nikon part number) for the Photo Diodes in the Nikon FM?? I have an FM that needs these, and the previous owner has removed them!! Any help (or a source for a real Nikon meter assembly in the US) would be really appreciated! Please respond to c_lockyerbratton@msn.com as well as to this site!! Thanks in anticipation....

  9. From Richard (Thu Jan 27 04:12:08 2000 ):
I am the original owner of a Nikon FM and have maintained it in mint condition. The only problem I have ever had occurs when I try to cock the shutter when the film door is open. The shutter only cocks half way and then jams, with the mirror locked up. This has happened twice. Is there some prohibition against cocking the shutter with the camera back open, for example when loading film, or is this a problem peculiar to my camera? Any insights greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  18. From JWoods (Wed Feb 9 21:55:05 2000 ):
#Nick# There is no "Champaign" finish as you claimed because it is only used by users to define and describe the colour of the exterior. However, the FM2T colour is different from those on F3T early "Champaign finish" version (Defined as:(= a pale orange yellow to grayish yellow or yellowish gray) by LARS Holsen from: source: http://www.dictionary.com/. The FM2nT is leaning towards more greyish than the F3T's brighter titanium coating (Although undernealth the exterior coating, inside is 99.6% pure Titanium). Check this section and you may see the difference (As I owned both of these models as leofoo does): http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/htmls/models/htmls/f3tlimited.htm   PEACE to ALL visiting the Message Board ! 19. From Pete R (Wed Feb 9 13:46:11 2000 ):
Ive been trying to find information on production dates for the FM. Can anyone out there help me? My current camera is #3214127. From my little experience I'm guessing a production date of about '80. Thanks, Pete

  20. From Nick (Wed Feb 9 10:50:59 2000 ):
Hi, I have a Nikon FM2/T that has a champagne titanium finish. The specs on this website say that the camera has a greyish finish. Does anyone know if there were two color versions of the FM2/T ?

  21. From Linus (Wed Feb 9 08:48:54 2000 ):
Takada & Nawus, actually there is such a "millenium" FM2. A local camera shop here in Singapore has one on display complete with papers and presentation case etc. Nawus is right, the serial numbers o nthe lens and body match, although I don't know if only 2000 units were produced. Apparently, this model was to cater for the Asian market only as this is the year of the dragon. I agree that it is not as well executed as the Titanium 'Year of the Dog' model that can be seen at http://www.cameraquest.com That model is definitely a collectors item now as apparently only 300 units were made. Guess you'll have to decide for yourself if this dragon FM2 will appreciate in value in due time. Me....I'm a user and won't be at all interested in such a collector's edition.

  22. From Takada (Wed Feb 9 08:40:15 2000 ):
Hi Nawus, I saw the "so called" millennium FM2 on ebay auction, but I strongly believe that it is fake! Everyone please take a look at the pics and judge yourselves: http://bdg.centrin.net.id/~eik/dragon.jpg (will Nikon just put a "sticker" on an ordinary FM2 and make it "Millennium"?? think about it!) I think someone just wanna make money by making a fake "limited edition" camera! If you still wanna buy that, please ask the seller for the pics of the box/ certificates...etc.

  23. From Nawus (Wed Feb 9 06:38:38 2000 ):
Has anyone heard of the FM2 "Millenium Edition"? It comes with a 50/1.4 which matched the serial number of the body. I was told only 2000 were made for the year 2000.

  24. From Robert Smedley (Sun Feb 6 09:23:41 2000 ):
I very recently purchased a Nikkor S 55mm 1.2 lens for my FM2. What can anyone tell me about the quality or history of the lens, or where I can find such information ? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

  25. From Linus (Fri Feb 25 08:33:01 2000 ):
Harvey, there should be adapters to use your current lenses on a Nikon body but the bad news is that such an adapter will probably contain optical elements which would degrade your images.

  26. From Harvey Holtom (Fri Feb 25 01:00:14 2000 ):
I have always been a Penta ME Super user, have a good range of lenses to go with it but am thinking of switching to a Nikon FM2 - any suggestions out there as to adaptors so i don't have to spend loads of $$$ on new lenses? Help and suggestions welcome. Thanks

  27. From leofoo (Thu Feb 24 23:51:14 2000 ):
Yeap, may be. Theoretically all Titan models should appreciate in price once they are vanishing from the camera shops window. There is a new 3000 units of "Year of the dragon" FM2nT just being introduced by Nikon for the far east market, it is more appealing to Asian like us where the dragon symbolizes Chinese origin. I should be able to show you the picture of that model next week in this site because Nikon distributor just called this afternoon and ask me if I like to snap some images along with the D-1 that have just arrived...

  28. From Leroy (Thu Feb 24 22:18:22 2000 ):
I already own a FM2n and I really like it. Is it wise to buy a FM2/t for collecting purposes?

  29. From Mark Tillman (Mon Feb 21 06:11:17 2000 ):
http://www.netway.com/%7ermjohn95/ The Wista Photo Gallery is a photography exhibit of documentary photographs taken in Worcester, Massachusetts. The photographs are full frame black & white images. Shot with a black 1978 FM and a 50mm f2 lens. (some with an F2)

  30. From Babar de Saint Cyr (Sun Feb 20 06:37:33 2000 ):
Hello FMWorld Just to say that I bought a FM2/T as new. An idea about manufactoring date since SN# = T9000112 ? And the color is "Champagne" as my wife's Nikon 35TI ;-) Babar

  31. From Frank N (Sat Feb 19 01:37:30 2000 ):
Does anyone know where I can find a repalcement fitted case and strap for my Nikon FM? It's the original camera that I have had all these years and it still works beautifully, but the case is very worn.

  32. From chuck (Fri Feb 18 11:57:06 2000 ):
looking for an fm2/t owners manuel? Can some one help!

  33. From arthur (Tue Feb 15 22:44:18 2000 ):
hello everyone, i just bought a used moter drive 12 cost HK$900(around US$113). Is that reasonable? even so, the feeling i felt is quite comfortable . the grip is good for me to handle my nFM2 .the weight is bad one. i would give 7 marks to this md 12 . good luck.

  34. From Sami (Tue Feb 15 15:15:10 2000 ):
I bought a Nikon FM body which has a problem with exposure metering: leds indicate heavy underexposure all the time, I can get correct exposure led on only by seting film speed to ASA 400, aperture to f/1.8 and directing the camera to a bright light bulb 10 inches away. Can anything be done to fix the metering system? If the reason is broken FRE (as described on page http://mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfmseries/fm/part4.htm) I thing the repairing costs areprobably too high, but is there anything I could do to check and/or repair the camera (e.g. open the camera body and clean some contacts etc). Excluding metering the camera seems to function OK, and therefore it'd be nice to get also the metering working again. The price I paid for the body was very low, and I can still use it for long (bulb) exposures for night photography and also in daylight if I meter with my fully working FE2.

  35. From Bruce Perry (Tue Mar 14 02:38:31 2000 ):
I have 3 FM2 bodies. After almost 20 years of hard use they need cleaning, adjusting and perhaps some overhaul. Can anyone suggest a reliable individual or company which can/will do such work. Thanks in advance.

  36. From GenHolst (Tue Mar 7 11:32:27 2000 ):
#FOR VAL#: The red dots in the ASA settings are in red because it signifies they are the most common film speed used for commerical film, just for easy identification. This is a message board for Nikon FM cameras. However, as for your camera, I think you can refer to a seperate site for Nikon FG at: http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/emfgfg20/fg/index.htm

  37. From Val (Tue Mar 7 06:45:29 2000 ):
I just bought a Nikon FG it seems like it is a really neat camera. Could someone please tell me why on the ASA dial the numbers 100 and the number 400 are in red and the rest of the numbers are in white. Another queation: how do I set the camera for TTL flash? The rest I think I can figure out myself. I don't have a manual. Thank you in advance. Val.

  38. From Maintainer of PIM (Thu Mar 2 13:14:42 2000 ):
MC Lau, a new contributing writer and a good friend of mine has just bought a new "Millennium 2000 - Year of the Dragon" Nikon FM2n, here is a first hand review by him !

  39. From Lars (Tue Feb 29 18:06:13 2000 ):
Hank - to get a Nikon AF speedlight is to jump two compatibilty steps (TTL and AF TTL). It might pay as you say you might eventually get an AF Nikon. Nikon AF speedligths will generally support the flash capabilities of FM2(N). For pre-AF SBs see http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/flash/sb1tosb21/index.htm

  40. From Hank Bersani (Tue Feb 29 16:03:41 2000 ):
I have a Nikon FM2 and I want to buy a flash. What should I get? I may get an autofocus Nikon in the future. SHould this alter what I look for in a flash? Hank Bersani

  41. From Lars (Mon Feb 28 18:22:35 2000 ):
Tom - for RC photography with the FM and MD-12 you need a RC cord like the MC-4 or its newer version MC-4A (and a lens off course! See http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfeseries/fefmshared/md12/md12basic5.htm Good luck!

  42. From Tom (Mon Feb 28 01:39:57 2000 ):
I own 1980 Nikon FM. Anybody know how to set it up for remote control photography? I plan on getting an MD-12 motor drive. What else do I need? Thanks.

  43. From jaywang (Sat Feb 26 17:25:43 2000 ):
I wonder if the "Year of the dragon" edition FM2 is Titanium, probably not. And the volume might be 2000 units.

  44. From Kay (Sat Feb 26 06:01:53 2000 ):
Hi. Please don't bite my head off. I'm thinking about buying two broken Nikon FMs for cheap, with the intent to cannibalize one of them. Is this feasible, or would the repair cost more than one moderately priced, functional FM?

  45. From Kho King (Sat Apr 8 21:04:45 2000 ):
I am a new user of Nikon camera. I have just bought my Nikon F60 in March 2000. Now I am a bit interested in the Nikon FM2 model. I would like to know whether FM2 is the best manual camera of Nikon? how much does this camera cost in Malaysia? what is the newest model of this camera? is it the FM2/T model? I hope someone can help me answer this question. thanks.

  46. From Joel Oliverio (Sun Apr 2 21:00:28 2000 ):
I bought my Nikon FM2 camera in 1984. I frequently used it for 3 successive years, i.e., from 1984 to 1987. Since then I kept it and almost forgot about it (since I do have another Nikon, a pocket size one). Now I would like to request from the Nikon Company if I can have free manual for the said Nikon FM2 camera. Although for long time I did not use, I firmly believe its still OK the way I see it. My only problem is how to operate it utilizing all its function. Please email me the manual. Thanks

  47. From James Burakoff (help me!) (Sat Apr 1 07:49:49 2000 ):
Help me! Ok... I just bought a nice Nikon FM with a good lense and a MD-12 drive. It only cost me $330, nice huh? Well... I had the thing on my chair at school today and, of course, a bag nicked it and it hit the ground hard enough to knock the mirror out of alignment. Now, it isn't REALLY bad... but things which should be at infinity (like buildings blocks away) look like they are just a bit more in the viewfinder. Now... this camera put me $200 in debt to my parents and I only make like $70 a week, so I'm screwed. It seems like it costs at least $90-120 to realign it. Does anyone know if it is possible for me to fix this myself, even though I completely lack knowledge about these things? ;-) Please gimme a mail: borgloc@aol.com Thanks much, a highschool student addicted to his poor, hurt, slr ;-)

  48. From The Wista Photo Gallery (Thu Mar 30 13:22:11 2000 ):
A Nikon FM Gallery... http://www.netway.com/%7ermjohn95/ The Wista Photo Gallery is a photography exhibit of documentary photographs taken in Worcester, Massachusetts. The photographs are full frame black & white images.

  49. From Pete Rossi (Wed Mar 29 10:57:30 2000 ):
I'm in need of help from someone experienced with the MD-11 or MD-12. I recently purchased one on ebay and I am having trouble getting it to work properly. It behaves as if every shot were the end of a roll. The the shutter trips, the LED lights up red, and will not advance the frame. In order for it to advance I have to shut the unit on and off. If anyone has any experience with this problem their help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Pete

I am the proud owner of a Nikon FM2, it, of course, is used. I am looking for an owner's manual for the FM2. What a beautiful piece of precision equipment, I believe, we are going to become good old friends like my last camera. If you have any info concerning acquiring a original manual, Please E-mail me with heading "Nikon" at Nita9Toes@aol.com
