I'm looking for a replacement battery for a Nikon SB-1 Speedlight flash unit, circa 1970. The original battery is a Yuasa. It's marked on the + end with 500FZ. The wrapper says it's a nickel-cadmium, gas tight. There are no markings for the voltage. It's cylindrical. The length is 2.385" (61mm), the diameter is 1.38" (35mm), and the negative end is flared out to 1.46" (37.2mm). Any hope? The strobe works fine with the AC charger but I'd like to still use it outside. Thanks for any leads.

I own a Nikon F FTN and reciently brought it out of mothballs. The first thing I learned was that mercury batteries are no longer made, but I replaced the 1.3 volt mercury batteries with 1.35 alkalide batteries. The problem is that now the FTN meter "jumps" erratically when I try to set my F stop. Is this because of the change in batteries or do I need to clean or repair the FTN meter? All suggestions are welcomed

For Mort Young I've had great luck with a repair shop in Seattle called Camera Techs. Go to www.cameratechs.com and take it from there. They managed to repair an old Gossen Luna Pro meter for me--and they've completely rejuvenated Ftn Nikon. If they can't find a new finder for you, they can probably fix your old one. Cheers.
