Some Selective Digital SLRs - Message Board/Guestbook

Whether like it or not, owners of Digital Still SLR cameras have similar problems with computer users - the hardwares tend to phased out very rapidly & replaced with new models, while the ultimate goal of a full frame 35mm format with realistic prices, older models of Digicam may present some support issues - while I hope the creation of this Message Board provide some form of relief to exiting owners as well as those who may intend to invest into one of the used units as prices are more realistic as compared to many newer models. Some of the opinion presented within the site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. So, this forum is intended to provide a channel for all to make use of it to present your own individual views. Lastly, we can make use of this Board to learn from each other and share experience so as to improve our skill. As I don't have much time upkeeping as well as keeping up with so many new Digital SLRs that keep streaming up from the respective manufacturers; so, as for now, just treat this website as MIR's contribution to the Network for the photographic community. Lastly, please respect ownership of various brands and AVOID touching on sensitive topics (such as my brand is better than yours...). Enjoy.

As this site is specifically created for this purpose - so, please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you. In answer to your question on the D5000 and D lenses not working on it, the D5000 hasn't got an in body focus motor, so if your not using the later lenses with the focus motor in the lens, you won't get the AF to work

On my Nikon D1X according to Nikon Support the data compression PCB has a defekt and is no longer available through Nikon, since the Service Period ended last year! What exactly does this board do? Can anyone repair it? Or where can I get one?
The camera still meters correctly and autofocus works perfectly but the monitor does not work, thus no access to the menue and of course the shutter will not release. It also does not recognize any CF cards anymore or shows them as full.
I hate to dispose of this excelent camera just yet!
Any ideas??? pls comment,thanks!

Hi! I'm looking for the proper IEEE1394 Firewire cord for the Fuji FinePix S2Pro. I see there are several cords with the same number, but different numbers of pins. Which is the correct one? (These tired old eyes can't make out the pin count on the body.) Also looking for a working micro drive. That is the only thing I hate about this camera.........lack of storage options.....and available parts. Thanks, Michael in South Central Pa.

I take lots of pics of grandchildren and like to pull them in from afar to get natural shots. Also landscapes and nature shots. Appreciate a digital camera that is well built in the old tradition of Nikon .... not the throw away in 3 years type. Not afraid of older digital models if well done. Want to spend about $1000 (used) for camera. Like to shoot without flash so need low f-Stop feature. Also looking for a lense to fit camera in $1000 range. Again low light shooting is prefered.

Not a patient photographer with gear ... want to interact with settings that are easy to understand and easy to use. Probably need only the zoom lense and body of Nikon.

Recently purchased a used (but nearly new cond.) Nikon D70 Digital SLR to go with a couple of decent Nikon AF lenses I have. Probably didn't do all the pre-purchase homework that I usually do, and afterwards discovered (online) such issues as the "Digital Green Light Of Death) software problem with the D70 as well as a few other issues. Regardless, I'm in the process of buying some of the accessories it didn't come with, including my favorite Sandisk Extreme III photo disk.

One thing I should lay out is the serial # range it's in. It's serial # 33202xx. Does anyone know when this specific serial number was manufactured? Would the "Green Light of Death" issue have been addressed by Nikon manufacturing at this point? Any idea of which software CD it would have come with?

One last question: when I went to order a couple of Sandisk 4GB Ultra Compact Disk Card (30mb), and afterwards was talking to a local camera store & mentioned the purchase. The sales guy told me that I "might" have a problem with that large (4GB) of photo card, stating that with the D70 being Nikon's first digital SLR it might not be able to handle any disk larger than 2GB. But he did admit he was at all certain about that. When I asked what would happen if it was too much GB for it, he said I'd likely get an Error message. Not good since I haven't yet even used this camera & thus don't know if it might have that "D.G.L.O.D." software problem, and therefore I might not know if an error message was due to too large of photo disk GB, or the GBLOD. Does anyone know whether the photo disk I ordered will work OK with my D70, or if that salesman was correct?
Thanks in advance for any assistance rendered. Tom in Colorado
