Some Selective Digital SLRs - Message Board/Guestbook

Whether like it or not, owners of Digital Still SLR cameras have similar problems with computer users - the hardwares tend to phased out very rapidly & replaced with new models, while the ultimate goal of a full frame 35mm format with realistic prices, older models of Digicam may present some support issues - while I hope the creation of this Message Board provide some form of relief to exiting owners as well as those who may intend to invest into one of the used units as prices are more realistic as compared to many newer models. Some of the opinion presented within the site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. So, this forum is intended to provide a channel for all to make use of it to present your own individual views. Lastly, we can make use of this Board to learn from each other and share experience so as to improve our skill. As I don't have much time upkeeping as well as keeping up with so many new Digital SLRs that keep streaming up from the respective manufacturers; so, as for now, just treat this website as MIR's contribution to the Network for the photographic community. Lastly, please respect ownership of various brands and AVOID touching on sensitive topics (such as my brand is better than yours...). Enjoy.

As this site is specifically created for this purpose - so, please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you. If your intention is to llok out or disposing your collection, you are also wecome to do so (as long as maintaining some basic ethic not to cheat anyone. The Photography In Malaysia has no Guestbook on its own, because it is an integral part of the MIR site. But if you want to leave a note on your experience visiting this site, you may use the MIR's Guestbook at another new browser window by clicking on the Guestbook Link.

OMG.... I must be a retard.. Please please... Is there some kind of "rule of thumb" for settings? Example, waterfall shot, you want each drop so shutter speed=? and aperture =? I have a Nikon D40, and we hate eachother... Wish it was more of a loving relationship, but we are fighting at the moment.

Thanks.

Hello all!

I recently returned from a trip to Costa Rica where I shot off close to 250 photos. Some were sunsets, some were action shots of friends surfing and some were of wildlife. While my point and shoot dig cam did quite well, Ive since seen my friends photos with his dSLR and ... ok I admit it, I'm jealous.

I have another trip coming up in December to Australia and I would like to find a dSLR camera that would let me take great photos, instead of the merely good ones my point and shoot gives me now. I would imagine that I would be taking the same type of photos (sunsets, action, wildlife) so I need something versatile and hopefully not too expensive.

I don't really care about the brand and I'm only comparing this purchase against my point and shoot, so I'm open to buying an older model if it is still an upgrade over what I have now. Thanks for any advice you may have. Feel free to email me.

Thanks,

Michael

FANTASTIC! Flight metal K-7, with the 14.6 MB best to date APS-C proven IQ CMOS sensor for HR light capture updated for color, bandwidth, and electron quick output (outresolves all slide film for its format size. Its patented layer sensor design offers the greatest sharpness and light resolution in its class--now more. Updated 4 channel output for quicker in camera image processing to the new processor, greater color sensitivity and thoroughput, and new sensor rotational and, user mechanical composition adjustments for in camera sensor. New dust elimination system, greater camera shake compensation. No prior electron "leaks" into black areas of a captured scene which gave an occasional white dot).

READ THIS: 5+ FPS; compact magnesium alloy body (over stainless); 3" High Resolution screen with output adjustment; dust, moisture and cold sealed; Prime II processor engine (1/8000 sec., high speed capture, HD movie capture); 77 segmented meter; real time live view, with selectable grid, histogram, and more (can determine subject values in real time, and then shoot or reshoot); 100% of view in viewfinder and for live view; HDMI Output; HD for 2 movie modes in widescreen, and not; High Def Screen; HD wall screen ready; mirror lock-up; ISO button; dynamic range control feature; on and on and on! See http://www.pentaximaging.com/slr/K-7/.

Pricing, the same list price as when the K20D was introduced [many felt it would be twice as much]. The K20 now selling for just over 50%+ of that original price is truly a deal. Now in a preorder status, the K-7 is a very serious system camera. It will be Christmas before we see much of a discount, and late July before stores are firstly stocked in NA and the EU. This K Mount is KAF2 with backward lens capability (plus can use KAF3 as well).

Now is the time for all good photographers to come to the system commitment support of Hoya/Pentax! Let's REWARD THIS VIABLE PARTNERSHIP for hearing and responding to K mount system users with the cutting edge needs of advanced photographers in mind. This stands with accompanying excellent rated optics in all current classes & with its radically improved AF (with low light color temperature wavelength sensing in the AF mix now with the leading time in quick focus), improved noise reduction achieves higher ISO stability, new white balance and color filtration options, high FPS even in RAW due to sensor/processor combo, battery life up, 100% field of view viewfinder & mirror lock-up [the Professionals long lens delight], Live View with scene tone information mode, past image adjustments settings via rotational dial, and screen menus with two new modalities for such, relocation of most buttoned functions, with new low light happy contrast AF, Face Detection, and optional histogram, grid on screen, and bright/dark area user compensation on high res Display which allows you to quickly compose your images without having to position your eye against the viewfinder (though you need to go back and forth between these to get to full information for shooting), can make highlight and shadow detail dynamics choices, has a secure electronic leveling function, offers the industry leading Dynamic Range setting, AF lenses (DFA forward) distortion correction, etc. etc. etc. For on camera data handling, Professional user choices: the ability to designate files, embed your copyright information in the accompanying picture data, and coordinate such workflow delivery. Buy an SD wireless card to go total post modern workflow remote.

Buy a separate SD wireless card and download to your tote wirelessly enabled PC or wirelessly available portable drive in the field. 14M 4672x3104, 10M 3936x2624, 6M 3072x2048, 2M 1728x1152; Movie (resolution/FPS): 1280x720p30, 1536x1024p30, 640x416p30; 3.0” TFT IPS (In Plane Switching) color LCD with brightness/color adjustment and AR coating; Resolution - 921,000 dots; much better color and sharpness than the Canon D-50; Wide angle viewable; Power source: Rechargeable Li-Ion battery D-LI90, D-BG4 Battery Grip (optional) for second D-LI90 battery or 6X AA batteries; Recordable images: Approx 980 (approx 740 w/ 50% flash, CIPA); Playback time: Approx 440 min; AC adapter available;Sensitivity range: EV 0 to 21; Still: RAW (PEF, DNG, to TIFF), JPG (Exif 2.21), DCF 2.0 (design rule for camera file system), DPOF, Print Image Matching III; Movie (compression): AVI (Motion JPG); Sensor-shift Shake Reduction with rotational compensation (4 stops max);, verifications via viewfinder and top LCD panel; Body dimensions (W x H x D): 5.1 x 3.8 x 2.9” (even SMALLER than Olympus, for a so-called midrange DSLR system camera. Pros will buy and use this camera, for sure).

Body weight, without battery or removable memory - 22.9 oz, Loaded and ready - 26.5 oz; Construction material(s): Magnesium alloy shell over stainless steel chassis permits operating temperature: 14-104°F (-10 to 40°C); Multi-segment: 77 segments, Center weighted, Spot, exposure compensation: +/- 5 EV (1/3 and 1/2 steps), exposure lock, exposure bracketing: 3 or 5 frames, up to +/- 2 EV (1/2 or 1/3 steps); Ports: USB 2.0 hi-speed, AV out, HDMI out, DC in, cable switch, 3.5mm stereo microphone jack (the only such found on DSLRs just now; Video out: HD (1080i30, 720p30, 480p30), NTSC, PAL; external flash system sync socket; Printer interfaces: n/a; Mode selection: Single, Continuous (Hi, Lo), Manual, Self-Timer (12s, 2s), Remote (0s, 3s, continuous), AF assist lamp, Bracketing (standard, timer, remote), shutter operation standard, remote, HDR Capture, Multi-Exposure, Dial and user determined exposure programming types (37 functions), Interval Continuous FPS 5.2 FPS specs are well established by need(40 JPG Continuous Hi, 15 RAW PEF, 14 RAW DNG) 3.3 FPS (unlimited JPG Continuous Lo, 17 RAW PEF/DNG), Self-timer: (12s, 2s), Remote control: infrared (0s, 3s, continuous) and cable switch.

Still image Quality levels: **** Premium, *** Best, ** Better, * Good; Improved Dust Removal and seals - Supersonic vibration to low pass filter.
The new sensor is rotationally more precise.

SO, we predict here a massive migration to Pentax by those who find the body fitting the hand in a similar feel to the LX! Field and wedding photographers can offer video clips as well as stills from the same point of view. Judging from the IQ of the DA 300* f4, and emerging DA* zooms in all ranges, many with HS focus motors: watch out top two for the blue Pentax horizon! Finally, a merger of having a company act together, on time and capable functions with bells and whistles, and ergonomics which lead the industry. All this is the result of a maker merger, and an on time design philosophy, as well as a meeting of minds with those of Pentax system loyalty persuasion.

Notice how quickly this came out after a little more than a year of the K20D entering the market, which still is a very good camera. Both are rugged companions to the field challenges of outdoor photographers. The K-7, now with industry leading low light AF will bring the system inside for professionals. It seems the new strategy to be on time, and with the functions necessary is now in the forefront of the Hoya/Pentax mindset. --Jay
