Some Selective Digital SLRs - Message Board/Guestbook

Whether like it or not, owners of Digital Still SLR cameras have similar problems with computer users - the hardwares tend to phased out very rapidly & replaced with new models, while the ultimate goal of a full frame 35mm format with realistic prices, older models of Digicam may present some support issues - while I hope the creation of this Message Board provide some form of relief to exiting owners as well as those who may intend to invest into one of the used units as prices are more realistic as compared to many newer models. Some of the opinion presented within the site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. So, this forum is intended to provide a channel for all to make use of it to present your own individual views. Lastly, we can make use of this Board to learn from each other and share experience so as to improve our skill. As I don't have much time upkeeping as well as keeping up with so many new Digital SLRs that keep streaming up from the respective manufacturers; so, as for now, just treat this website as MIR's contribution to the Network for the photographic community. Lastly, please respect ownership of various brands and AVOID touching on sensitive topics (such as my brand is better than yours...). Enjoy.

As this site is specifically created for this purpose - so, please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you. Thank you for a very informative site. I am an old (over 50's) film based photographer, who has found an Aladins cave full of cheap film in the NAFFI (Army Term for military shopping complex)/ I have a Nikon F601, bought cheap when the digital cameras started taking off in a big way. I am now moving onto purchasing a NEW D80 on special offer at the NAFFI with a 18 - 135 lens. My interest is in how many of my old lenses can I re-use, and daftest of all, I am trying to find out - will the new digital lens fit the old camera?

Thanks again for an interesting and informative site. Roger

Hi I picked up a used n2000 that seems to work great but I can not load film into the camera. The winding know will not move up to pop open the back. I have found a manual and read the directions, but the know seems to have some Damage to it and I am wondering if something is broken and that is why. If it is broken can you get it fixed fairly inexpensively??? I only paid like $8.00 for it but it would be nice if I could still use it. Thanks for your time... - Andrew

Some guide:
1) DX Nikkor: All functions supported
2) Type G or D AF Nikkor: All functions supported
3) Micro Nikkor 85 mm F2.8D: All functions supported except autofocus and some exposure modes
4) Other AF Nikkor: All functions supported except 3D Color Matrix Metering II
5) AI-P Nikkor: All functions supported except 3D Color Matrix Metering II and autofocus
6) Non-CPU: Can be used in exposure mode M, but exposure meter does not function; electronic range finder can be used if maximum aperture is f/5.6 or faster Note: IX Nikkor lenses can not be used

I have a Nikon FG with the following lenses: Series E 50MM 1:1.8; Albinar 28MM 1:2.8 wide angle; Albinar 80-200MM 1:3.9 Zoom. I believe these are AI-S type lenses.

I am thinking about buying the new Nikon D40. My question is: Can I use my existing lenses with the D40? I understand that I will have to use manual focus. Is this possible? Practical? Any problems? - John

I've been offered a camera model X286, but I am really new to photography and after just having my camera stolen I need a new one. What model is this? I haven't found it anywhere on the internet and I am kind of stuck as to how much I should offer this person.
