Some Selective Digital SLRs - Message Board/Guestbook |
Whether like it or not, owners of Digital Still SLR cameras have similar problems with computer users - the hardwares tend to phased out very rapidly & replaced with new models, while the ultimate goal of a full frame 35mm format with realistic prices, older models of Digicam may present some support issues - while I hope the creation of this Message Board provide some form of relief to exiting owners as well as those who may intend to invest into one of the used units as prices are more realistic as compared to many newer models. Some of the opinion presented within the site was entirely personal and I do not wish to influence any decision prior to any potential purchases or disposal. So, this forum is intended to provide a channel for all to make use of it to present your own individual views. Lastly, we can make use of this Board to learn from each other and share experience so as to improve our skill. As I don't have much time upkeeping as well as keeping up with so many new Digital SLRs that keep streaming up from the respective manufacturers; so, as for now, just treat this website as MIR's contribution to the Network for the photographic community. Lastly, please respect ownership of various brands and AVOID touching on sensitive topics (such as my brand is better than yours...). Enjoy. As this site is specifically created for this purpose - so, please don't mail me other than constructive suggestions or rectifying mistakes found in this site, thanking you. Go this page for Firmware update or others (you need to register the seial number of the camera before download), registration is okay as you can have support later:

For the zoom that you asked, here is a basic info page:

But no one can inspire you in how to make good use of the lens. Try to explore the creative possibility on your own is the best. Last, sicne you have a 50mm f/1.4D, here is the section for the said lens:

I have an Nikon D1X that I bought new in 2002, that I generally use with an AF Nikor 50mm 1:1.4 D lens. My most recent camera before that (1986?) was a Nikon F4, which I generally used with an AF Nikor 28-84mm 1:3.5-4.5 lens. About 20 years ago (I am now 68 yrs. old, my first camera was an Argus C3), I attended a Nikon school in Dallas and I learned a lot. I am now retired and now live in a remote part of the U.S. I have several questions. Since there have been several releases of Nikon cameras since my D1X, I assume that there may be new hardware, firmware, or software available as upgrades to the D1X.
Q1 ...Can you point me in the right direction for that.
Q2 ... Where/how can I learn about the appropriate use of my older lenses such as my AF Nikor 28-84mm 1:3.5-4.5 lens on my D1X? Thanks for any help you can provide !!!

I heard kakaman (leo) was saying why DSLR has to make it so complicated ? Nikon SHOULD produce a SIMPLE digital camera such as the Nikon F3. No frills or complicated kind of controls and thousand of adjustment FOR photographers. Simply give us / photographers a basic aperture priority AE Digital camera rather than making photos for us....peace.5. From : Bill Pador (bpador@optonline.net)

I have a Nikon D70 (D70s via firmware upgrade) and have noticed a huge problem. I have many BLACK DOTS appearing on my pictures, at first I thought my lens was dirty so I cleaned it, still had the same problem with ALL my lenses. So I figure it's either on the MIRROR or SENSOR. Upon cleaning the mirror I noticed it is CLOUDY & kind of warn out looking. Is it possible I have messed the mirror up cleaning it ? Also is there a way to clean the SENSOR & if so HOW do I get to it and what method do I use to clean it ? I tried using air to blow out the inside of the camera body to no avail also. Thanks for your time - Bill Pador 6. From : J.C. (prefer@private.com)

Yeap. Just curious ... Why Nikon DSLR has only ASA100 or at most ASA80 ????? Canon portable Pro1 even provides ASA50 !7. From : JWoods (centurywoods@nospamyahho.com)

This Q&A was copied from the general Nikon MB, I think it is relevant for a good thought by some of us: By Nick Toc ...." ..No. For an instance, most Nikon DSLR has compromised picture format DF format (1.5X) they don't even provide ASA 50 sensitivity, film has ASA 25. BUT- MOST people don't care a damn about it as long as it looks good on their monitor. Secondly, the chance of seeing the captured image instantly is hard to resist (adding the fact one can still "repair" the damage by another follow up) - it is all about convenience it offers. ...".8. Do you think the 35mm SLRs are dead now that people are going digital? Is there a chance the SLR will be rise up from the ashes of photography, and regain it popularity. Do you think they have the same quality(SLRs) as digitals? -9. From : Notts (noreply@nomail.com)

I've bought Canon A710IS. A really nice compact camera with image stabilizer (though not quite perfect...) and 6x optical zoom. Seems to be a good decision if you don't want anything heavy in your bag. Of course, something more solid is a must, but in case of any incident this little pet at hand is a very useful thing!
